We purchased a lot in Connestee Falls Development POA,North Carolina. We met a builder, Greg Bright, and showed him photos of homes and floorplans that we liked, he said he needed to hire an architect, John Pinkston, to draw up a set of plans. We paid Greg Bright the builder $4000 for those plans. Our budget was less than 500,000 for the home and Greg Bright license limit was 500,000. We signed a contract and Greg Bright started building the home, clearing the property, putting in the footers, and doing the block foundation. Started framing out the downstairs and putting the flooring down for the first floor. On Nov 3rd we got the call that the house is bigger than what we intend, the square footage on the first paged of the plans is listed much less then the drawings, the scale on the plans said 1/4 but in actuality the plans were drawn on 3/16 inch scale. This is also when we found out that John Pinkston was a draftsman and not an architect. Greg Bright informed us that the house was going to cost much more than originally planned. Greg Bright added the framing contractor, that was working on the house, who has a higher limit on his license, to the contract, and told us to sign the contract or he was walking off the job.We hired Attorney Mike Wimer to review the original contract and rewrite the new change order contract. As we got in deeper we began to suspect that there was intent from the beginning. The attorney sent a demand letter to Greg Bright on Dec 2nd to fulfill the contract and finish the house. There has been no response from the contractor. He has removed building material from the property.
We are desperately looking for a contractor to take over the project.....most don’t want to get involved.
This information is true and accurate; we have supporting documentation and are extremely distressed to find ourselves in this situation.
Greg Bright has been paid up to date,
and all subcontractor have been paid.
We were so much looking forward to be part of the Connestee Fall community and all it has to offer.
Our beautiful piece of property, and in our eyes priceless, has been ruined.
