Originally we got an estimate on building a small roof extension and repairing the exterior siding on the home. The estimate came with a line item for fuel. We questioned what that was for and we were told it was for when materials were picked up for the job. We decided we wanted some other things done as well and we were told it would be better to do the job using a time and materials payment system, and we agreed. The first invoice came and the time charged was very close to what I recorded. The materials were lumped together and I asked for a breakdown, which I never received. There was also a large charge for fuel. When I inquired about this charge I was told it's to cover the cost of driving the truck and hauling a trailer. We decided to just pay it and get the job completed. When we got the final invoice, the time charged was extremely higher than I had recorded. I work from a room with a window that looks out at the front driveway so I could see when and who showed up and when they left each day. The material charges, still lumped together, seemed very high and included a charge for something that was billed on the first invoice. We thought maybe this invoice included the charges from the first invoice, but we were told no. When I asked for a breakdown of the materials I was told that he would send the receipts from the job and that he was "never happy" when people get a great outcome and have questions. The receipts he provided didn't add up to either of the invoices and also included a large receipt dated after our job was complete. We decided to meet and he would bring the receipts and we would go over them together. It appeared we we were paying for time to and from the job, lunches, and other mysterious time spent on the job. He also brought receipts for a tape measure, battery for the tools etc for over $300. We were also charged for excess materials that were not left behind. All extra materials were taken away but we were charged for them. We did come to a compromise on the final invoice and paid it then and there. During this ordeal Matt was annoyed to say the least. After we had come to an agreement on the payment and my husband was getting a check, I started to talk to him and he cut me off saying, "we're done here, we don't have to talk." The guys who came out to do the work were pleasant and showed up early and worked hard each day. However, we hired them to fix the siding before the house could be painted. After they were done my husband was on the roof preparing the second story for the painter and saw broken siding and a piece that had fallen off of the house and was laying on the roof. The guys returned in a few days to fix the siding. There was also a time when I showed where some of the siding needed to be nailed down and was told that was as good as it gets, but when the guys returned to fix the siding, they were able to nail it down. The eves of the new section of roof was covered with the extra house siding instead of the proper material. There were also some utility boxes and wire that was taken down during the construction that they never replaced. When replacing the siding on a dormer, the edge on the bottom was uneven. They did do a good job enclosing underneath a balcony and installing some windows, but I would not recommend their services.
