I am writing you to share my great satisfaction for the work that Mark Kelley of Buckmarsh Concrete did at my house. The story begins in April of 2010 when I hired someone to pour a patio in front of my house and a foundation for a shed. The guy talked like he knew what he was doing so we proceeded. When he prepared the area, he used large rocks for the border to hold the concrete. The day came for the pour and he introduced me to three guys who I was to pay for helpers. The Crider and Shockey truck came in and after pouring the patio the truck ran out of concrete about a third of the way into pouring the shed floor. The driver went back for more as I scrambled to find work for these guys to do since I was paying them by the hour. In the meantime, their friends arrived hoping that they could get paid too. I saw no tools and watched the guy I hired to do the job grab my brand new push broom from my shed and use it on the concrete. It is a day I would not like to re-live. Later, I found out that Jerry had come from prison and while he was working for me, he had been up to no good. The police finally got him on 5 counts of breaking and entering and one count of grand larceny. The work, to build a shed and close in a porch, that he had started all had to be torn out and done over because it wasn’t right. I was devastated as I make little pay working for the library. The stress of the whole ordeal took a toll on me, as well.
I was now left with a horrible looking patio which even had humps in it from the stone he covered with concrete. A number of people looked at it. Some told me to cap it and others told me it should be taken out and done over. I agonized over what to do. I was so afraid I would make another expensive mistake. Finally, right or wrong, I knew I needed to make a move because I just couldn’t have this hanging over me any longer. Out of the estimates I had gotten, I decided to go with Mark Kelley. He was both willing to patiently talk everything over with me and he was reasonable in price.
It was a good decision. Mark arrived with two workers shortly after I hired him and framed up the job. While he was there, I was having some excavating work done. Dirt was removed from the back corner of my house which exposed a large root that had pushed through the block of the foundation. Mark and his crew were more than willing to pull out the root and dirt and pack in the area with concrete when they did the pour the next day. When I came home from work that day, I couldn’t believe what I saw. The patio was beautiful and far nicer than I could have ever imagined. It completely transformed the look of my house. Mark instantly became my hero.
After the excavating work was done, Mark was to put in a stoop to my back door and a pad for a HVAC unit. He arrived the day of the pour, not knowing how the area would really look and proceeded to get the forms down. There was no head scratching and pacing. He knew exactly what to do and that must come from a lot of experience. Not only did his confidence put me at ease (nothing was a problem for him), but there was also no drama like I have had with others I have hired. He and his crew came in, did the job and left. He is personable, organized, prepared, and professional and clearly knows what he is doing.
Since I moved here 7 years ago, I have worked very hard in trying to make something of this house and yard. Hiring people to do what I ask, do it well, stay with the job until it is finished, be reasonable in price and not change the price given after the work has been started all on the same job was something I had not experienced until Mark did this job for me. There have been days when I have felt so low and so frustrated over the things workers have said and not delivered that when I saw that patio, it was very uplifting for me. Now I can look at his work and it gives me the strength to carry on.
