Owner
Built Green sold us an Energy Star Home which they are not licensed to build. We signed a contract April 2018 and they did not obtain a Certificate of Occupancy until March 2020. Although they obtained a COO, the house was not built to code and required us to terminate their contract and hire another builder to correct and complete the work. Several items were not completed per North Carolina Residential Construction building code or manufacturers instructions. We had everything corrected, at our expense, which delayed moving into the house until November 2020. Items needing correction: 1. Cement board siding installed with cement poured over bottom of cement board 2. Flashing not installed 3. Shower leveling compound had twigs, acorn tops, and small pebbles in it 4. Barge rafters not properly fastened 5. Hot water heater was too small for house 6. The roofing was improperly installed and had to be replaced 7. Plumbing leaks 8. Standing water and mold in crawl space 9. Green board not installed as per contract and code 10. Waterproofing to grade was not done 11. Missing house wrap and sheathing on dormer leaving insulation exposed 12. No insulation in some areas 13. Ceilings on front and back porch was not installed per manufacturers' instructions 14. Sidewalk drained toward house 15. Siding on house had to be repaired 16. Trim in garage was not completed 17. Grading was not correct and caused water to flow towards the house 18. Exhaust Vents from bathroom and laundry room were not attached to outside vents 19. Several items listed in contract were not completed such as: correct finish on front of house, window shutters, PVC under drive 20. Contract we signed was changed after we signed and was submitted to the bank without our knowledge We filed suit & were awarded treble damages, court cost, and legal fees. However, we had to settle for less than 25% of the judgement due to the builder's financial issues.
