Bulb Switch Reviews
1 out of 5 stars, based on 1 review

  • By Don F.
    September 20, 2024

The ratings of Zero Stars previously given to Ryan Kelley and his company Bulb Switch by Kay H. and Gail D. in 2021 remain accurate in 2024 into 2025. Beware of this electrician and his company! All negative observations and experiences of Ryan and Bulb Switch in reviews by Kay and Gail reflect my experience with Ryan in September 2024. Bulb Switch Company is located in Holt, MO and not Kearney, MO as advertised on several pages. My job was a mid-sized $3,600 job for many lights and several fans to be installed in my basement, and a laundry electrical service to be moved. I also had another $1,800 garage light job scheduled with Bulb Switch. I cancelled the garage job two weeks into the basement job. Ryan did not want to return the parts deposit for the garage lights when I cancelled that job. I got about half of the $940 deposit back because I then added the $940 to the basement payoff (still a loss). Although Ryan claimed that he would provide an adjusted quote - he never did. Ryan purchased no parts for my basement or garage job - other than a few cheap dimmer switches and other components that did not total $200 - which does not account for the $1,788 deposit that he claimed he needed to purchase parts. Ryan does not - and cannot provide receipts for any part purchase estimates written on his quotes for this job. In addition - the part quotes were grossly inflated several times the true cost. I've checked - and the price quotes are several times what they should have been. I already had a roll of wire and light boxes on hand which Ryan readily began using. Ryan used the deposit (parts) money for his personal life expenses not associated with my project. When Ryan did this - as he did with the jobs for Kay and Gail - Ryan was lying and he was stealing his customer's money. And as with Kay and Gail - Ryan continued to approach me for more money. Although Ryan used my deposit money for his personal life, he has no company vehicles - he drives a rental truck and he later told me that he was broke. For even a basic certified electrician with modest capability - my jobs would have required only about 3 - eight hour workdays or less. Ryan was in and out for two weeks, never worked more than 3 hours in one day and some days did not show up at all. He said that he called me when he did not, and said that he texted me when he did not. He always had some excuse to leave - promising that he would finish all the work the next day. These were lies. Most of the time Ryan's phone mail is full and you cannot contact him. Several days he arrived at work smelling of alcohol, and he always he had the heavy stench of cigarettes about him, and he carried arms. He had one employee for one day who I thought was a good worker. The next day after an hour - this employee was in his truck and Ryan had an excuse to leave. The employee did not return. When I had no more money for Ryan until the job was completed - he arrived at my house one evening on a claim that he intended to work for a few hours. Instead - Ryan picked up his tools, the wire and parts that he supposedly purchased with my money - and left not to return. Taking any of the few supplies that he purchased or already had at my house constituted a theft - as these were paid for in the deposit that I paid Ryan for parts. As with Kay and Gail's experience - Ryan did not complete work he committed to and that he was paid for. Instead he left wires hanging and no connections made - the project was not even half finished - exactly the same result Ryan left Kay and Gail with. If you find any positive reviews for Ryan or Bulb Switch company - don't believe these deceptive reviews. For example - on the Birdseye site there are positive reviews for Bulb Switch. But with a closer look at these positive reviews - you find that they are for very minor items that require only a few hours at the most and no project skills. The reviews include items such as installation of one light, or a few outlets, or an electrical box. Some of the positive reviews for Ryan and Bulb Switch don't even mention the work that was done. Who could honestly evaluate a company on such small and quick jobs - and why would anyone even bother to write a review for such small items? Why would anyone leave positive reviews without mentioning what the job was? All such positive reviews for Ryan and Bulb Switch should be considered suspect. I did not find comments for such small work on reviews for other electrical contractors. Negative reviews for Ryan are consistent for mid-sized straight-forward jobs that even beginner electrical contractors can complete. Inappropriately, Ryan continuously discussed his family problems to me - which were not my business or concern. As with Kay and Gail years before - Ryan and Bulb Switch are banned from my residence. Ryan is a person of very low character - who scams his customers till he can scam them no more. I strongly recommend avoiding Ryan Kelley.
