    Tiny bathroom remodel
    $10,000

    Nightmare remodel of 24sf bathroom
DO NOT hire this ass clown.

Jim destroyed our deck while using it as his work station. Damaged the brand new bathtub we purchased for this remodel. Damaged our floor and kitchen counter. Filled our home with dust and debris because he didn't mask off the remodel area.

Claimed to be a master craftsman specializing in custom tile work. This is an outright lie. Jim does not have the skill level to perform the simplest of tasks. We also had to clean up after him every single day like we were his mommy and daddy.

Jim charged us 3k obove original bid due to his own costly mistakes and time management issues. Jim is very disorganized and inefficient. Wasted valuable time which extended the job by 7 days and beyond if he'd been allowed to finish.

Jim had to eventually be escorted off our property before the job was done because his trail of destruction was piling on damages by the minute.

It took us a month to clean up the mess Jim left behind.

Total cost of 24sf bathroom remodel of remodel to date is 13,766

    Remodeled my main bathroom
    $24,000

Jim McAdams remodeled my main bathroom for me. Jim does excellent work, is honest and kept within the estimate he quoted me. He had a great idea of using the Onyx collection for the pan for my shower area. I love it!! He discovered dry rot and replaced the rotten parts. He was able to mimic the other 2 bathrooms that had been recently remodeled. I am very happy with his work. He is very good at communicating and discussing possible issues that could add on to the estimate that wasn't included on his bid. Very reasonable, pleasant to work with. Went above and beyond my expectations. I highly recommend Jim McAdams. He is a very nice guy, has great ideas if you are not sure about something, honest and does excellent work. Thank you so much Jim for remodeling the last room in my house. Debbie J.

Tub install and custom tile, repair water damage, rebuild walls
    $6,000

I had a rather complex bathroom project: odd construction features, cumulative and serious water damage, and existing tile that I was not interested in replacing just yet. The soaking tub was an odd size that had been installed poorly before I purchased the home. Jim McAdams was able to handle all of these problems while keeping an eye on the cost. He painstakingly prepared the area, worked with the terrific plumbers I had hired, (kudos to Silvana Plumbing), designed an incredible spa area with custom tile that blends nicely with the existing tile. I am literally gobsmacked that it all came together so perfectly considering all of the issues that had to be reckoned with. Jim has a real eye for design and a drive for perfection. I would highly recommend By the Book to friends and neighbors- in fact, I already have!

Kitchen remodel following a water leak

I selected By the Book Construction because of a referral by a friend. The work done on my kitchen remodel by Jim McAdams and his crew has resulted in excellent workmanship. Jim is very detail-oriented and a perfectionist and is very ingenious in solving difficult situations. Mine was a difficult kitchen remodel which required stripping part of it down to the crawl space to remove and replace rotten timbers before the restoration could even begin.
Since I've been living in the house while the work is being done, I have found Jim to be a person of the highest integrity and is very honest and ethical. The kitchen is now about 90 percent completed; it is of outstanding quality and will be a delight to use when it is finished!
I highly recommend By the Book Construction. They know how to do it right!

JIM DID A VERY, VERY GOOD JOB REMODELING MY MAIN BATHROOM. BECAUSE MY HOUSE WAS BUILT BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND NOTHING WAS DONE RIGHT. JIM TOOK THE TIME TO FIX ALL THE MANY PROBLEMS AND KEPT THE COST DOWN.
I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMEND BY THE BOOK CONSTRUCTION TO ANYONE WHO WANTS THE JOB DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.

    Bathroom remodel

What an amazing job Jim with By The Book Construction did for us! We were in need of two bathroom remodels and Jim did a wonderful job! We were so impressed with his finished work & honesty, that we had him do a fireplace remodel for our son's new home. Jim came up with the stacked stone idea and it came out beautifully! I have happily referred Jim to others, knowing he will give a fair price and do an outstanding job!

Add some drywall, frame 3 closets, install prebuilt cabinets to kitchen, paint portion of our home.

Jim McAdams does not know what he is doing. This guy is a fraud. He would charge us for all of his own mistakes.
We never had a estimate or contract with him.
So disorganized!!! His disorganization cost us thousands.
We paid him the verbally agreed amount for the job of $10,000. Then he told us that he needed $4,000 cash for cost overruns.
Now he is liening our house for over $16,000 for work that we had already paid for!!! His work was very unprofessional and the work that he did looks terrible. Now we will pay for an attorney!!!
