I hired Byron Crowley Construction last year, 2023 to do a major remodel my home and kitchen. I had an extremely negative experience with Byron Crowley as a contractor for my remodel. His work was subpar and far below any reasonable standard of quality. Example, part of the remodel was to install two of my Marvin sliding doors. After the doors were installed they left the area a mess and said it was complete. Byron never came to inspect the sliding doors. I had the same sliding door installed in my bedroom a few years ago and it open and closed very smoothly. These doors that Byron installed would not slide smoothly. I called Byron to inform him I did not feel the doors were installed correctly. He said, "The wheels just need adjusting and I have installed hundreds of these sliding doors"
I believed it was more to it than just the wheels needing adjusting. I called Dolans Lumber and also Marvin Dealer and they both came out to my home to inspect the doors. They were clearly not installed correctly and were not plumb, leveled and square. The doors had to come out and reinstalled. Byron would not listen to me after I informed him of the doors need to come out and reinstalled. I then requested a meeting at my home with my architect and Byron to show him the doors and other areas where the work was done unsatisfactory. My architect Dan could see the doors were not installed correctly and Byron finally admit they were not and he said he would fix them. Dan said this has been going on too long and they should have been fixed a long time ago. My house was also very dirty and his workers never cleaned it up after their work. This was during the fall and winter and I was living in an unlocked house. I said his sub contractors need to clean up before they leave since I was living in the back of the house. This is my fourth home I remodeled and this is by far the worst experience I had with a contractor. He would not listen to my concerns and even my architect Dan told Byron he needs to listen to my concerns. Byron is the type of person that feels he knows all the answers and won't admit to making a mistake. I am glad I had a retired friend in construction that helped me oversee Byron's work.
I waited close to two months and Byron never came back to fix the doors. I had Dolan's lumber reinstall the doors. During my construction Byron failed to catch other mistakes. He was working on other project and his personal Tahoe home during my construction. There is a lot more I can write about all the problems I had working with Byron. I do not want another homeowner to experience what I went through so I filed a complaint with the California State Contractors Board located in Sacramento. The Contractors Board researched my complaints and found Byron Crowley Construction Inc. was in violations of the California Business and Professions Code. The Contractors Board were excellent in taking my complaint, researching it and now helping protect consumers from contractors like Byron. If you are considering hiring Byron Crowley you can check with the California State Contractors Board at 1800-321-2752. His license number is 1042904. I strongly advise anyone considering his services to proceed with extreme caution.
