    Imagine that you and your siblings inherit your grandmother’s home. Before you take possession, a court-appointed administrator allows the basement to flood, and now there is mold growing in the basement and sub basement. Your realtor recommends c&j basement solutions to remove the mold and repair the water damage, so you get an estimate and sign a $21,473 contract which itemizes the work to be done. You are informed, in writing, that residual counts of mold spores from air flow may be present on the first floor and above, but that no mold growth was detected on the upper two floors. You did not, at any time, authorize or pay for work on the upper floors.

    You consult with your attorney, who immediately drafts a letter to c&j basement solutions. Unfortunately for you, your sibling decides (against attorney advice) to actually pay the remaining balance. Once the bill is paid in full, there is little you can do to hold c&j basement solutions financially responsible for their negligent, unprofessional behavior and the complete destruction of your home’s interior.

    Imagine how you‘d feel if you hired a company to work on your basement and they gutted every room in the house down to the studs. You would wish that, at the very very least, someone had warned you, right?

    Mold remediation

    My brother, sister, and I inherited a home and discovered that the basement had flooded, and that there was an obvious mold problem in the basement and sub-basement. c&j basement solutions discovered no mold infestation on the upper two floors, and my brother signed a contract on 11-14-20 and paid $7157 (1/3 of total) to treat and repair the damage to the basement areas. c&j basement solutions waited more than two months to begin work, and scheduled an inspection on 2/3/21 after the work was completed to do an inspection and pay the remaining balance.

    When my brother entered the house, he discovered that the entire house had been completely gutted. Walls, ceilings, doors, cabinets, sinks, stove, lights, oven, toilets, bathtubs— everything was gone. (See pictures) No attempt was made to get my brother’s permission to demolish the upper two levels, and c&j basement solutions was not authorized to do anything to these floors. My brother is a nice, non-confrontational person, and he paid the remaining balance (after c&j reduced it by a measly $2000). I preferred to sue c&j basement solutions. I was not prepared for the complete destruction of the home’s interior, and would not have permitted it if c&j basement solutions had attempted to to get authorization for the work.

    To make matters worse, I just discovered that valuable items were stolen from the garage. No one had access to the house or garage other than c&j basement solutions’ employees, and my brother made it clear that no items stored in the garage were to be disturbed or removed. The deadbolts on the house and garage were locked, and no doors or windows were broken. Some of the stolen items were large and would have been difficult to remove unnoticed. I have not yet decided what actions I can or will take against c&j basement solutions, but I would strongly suggest that anyone who doesn’t want to have their home destroyed and their possessions stolen should hire another company.
