By Gregory G.February 2, 2021Build a deck, remove old stairs$27,875
Cliff initially agreed to build a deck for $12000- half up front, half upon completion. The work was to be completed in 2 weeks.
He came back a few days later asking for an additional 12,875 to cover upgrades for metal railing.
25 weeks passed, with infrequent work done by a parade of under skilled, under equipped worker who showed up late, left early, trashed our property; these workers were unsupervised and did not have a consistent understanding of what they were doing.
Most of the work was never done. No railing installed; no staining, no refund. He is dishonest and has no problem promising fixes and agreeing new deadlines, none of which were delivered.
We would have terminated him earlier but had paid him up front and continued to hope he would honor his contract. Now we are having the work completed by a competent and honest contractor. -

In the beginning he was great. Told us we would have the job done before we moved into our new house. He was remodeling the floors, kitchen, opening up a wall and converting a bedroom back to a dinning room, remove pop corn ceiling and redo the master bath ( floor and vanity). Also paint throughout. First of all his helper was his mother in law. She would do most of the work with Cliff. At one point there was another guy ( plumber) actually doing work on the floors because cliff was behind and the guy even said I have never done this before and left early. The floors are a disaster. They are popping up in various places. The painting was terrible. He told me it was completed and you could still see clearly the patch work on the ceiling. I needed up painting every room and hiring another contractor to completed the job.
To this day I receive calls from the granite place he used for my kitchen as he never paid them the remaining balance for my counter. I paid him cash for the job which he asked for half up front and then throughout more and more. I finally told my husband to stop giving it to him. The whole job was 25k. And I hand to spend another 15k to fix his problems and repaint the house.
The bathroom floor he installed has this glass type finish and when wet you can crack your head. Should never have used this tile in a bathroom. Also the tile isn’t level and there are raised areas that you feel like you can cut your feet open.
This job was obviously too much for him and If I knew then what I know now I would never have used him.

Incredibly disappointed in his work, or lack there of and he is threatening to put a mechanics lien on my clients property, though we failed the inspection because of him, and the work in the contract wasnt finished, had to bring in other subs to finish, and he still wants the money. Sad but never again.Run Forest, run!

Clifton Matthews is a thief, con, and corner cutter. We hired him for 2 projects based on a referral from a realtor who we have used for 10 years and wouldn't have ever trusted him otherwise.
Cliff was supposed to close in a carport to add a bathroom and a master suite. Gave him $5000 and abandoned the project and stole materials. He was also supposed to clean up an auction property (remove carpet, trash, kitchen cabinets, bathroom) and renovate the kitchen, bathroom, put new floors, rebuild new steps entering the home, and demolition the back shed. Took $13500 and all that was completed was the cleanup/demo and paint. Asked for more money half way through.
Pathetic excuse for a contractor. His wife, Taylor Matthews, is equally a snake

By AnonymousNovember 21, 2017If I provide specifics - this animal is going to send addicts to my house to get revenge. No, I can$2,500Read more
Do not use this guy. I can't add any more details at this point because I still live in the house where I had Cliff Matthews and his goons come do the work. It was a complete waste of money - I'm still ripping out the work they did and doing it correctly. Cliff is a charismatic liar - he doesn't have the skills to do the work and he doesn't have any employees who have the skills to do the work either. The people he brought into my home were mostly drug addicts he met somewhere that out-of-work contractors hang out - he didn't know them and they proved that they had only a rough idea of how to do the work. They stole my tools, ruined my carpet, damaged my wood floor, damaged the ceiling in many places, wrecked my landscaping and hounded me for payment endlessly though the work had never been completed. I eventually paid much less than the agreed upon price just to get them to leave me alone - and it was worth it to get them out of my home. I later found out that Cliff never paid the (probably) druggies he hired because two of them showed up at my home with razor blades to try to intimidate me into paying them - they left when I expressed my willingness to contact the police if necessary, and I lucked out because there just happened to be a cop driving through the neighborhood. Cliff is a bad person. If I had any idea how to report this in a way that would affect his licensing or insurance, I would - but I can't afford to sue this fool because I know he doesn't have anything and he strikes me as the kind of guy that would seek revenge. Do not invite this devil into your home - it will be very hard to get rid of him.

I hired C Matthews, Cliff Matthews to repair my home after severe damage from a tornado. I had many problems with him.
The first big problem was that he took a $20,000 payment up front for my custom doors. They came in 4 weeks late and I paid him $5,000 to install them. However, they were the wrong size and material. Some of them were as much as 10 inches too narrow as well as being too tall. They were supposed to be wood frame and were fiberglass. Cliff did arrange to have his supplier take back the doors, however while the vendor told me they credited him within 3 business days for the doors, he never returned our $20,000. After over a month of trying to get him to price the correct doors and order them and not getting anywhere, I had to order them myself. Not only did he never return my $20,000, he didn't return the $5000 for installation. He never returned to even install the doors I paid for (a second time) when they came in, so he kept $25,0000 for which he provided no materials or labor. The supplier also couldn't take back the doors without a lift to remove them from my back porch as they weigh 700lbs and Cliff didnt provide that either, I had to pay over $1,000 for the lift.
There were also numerous other problems with work that was done incorrectly or not done at all for which he had collected another $20,000+. I had to pay other contractors for this work, so I am out nearly $50,000. I also was told by the roofing company 4 months after they did their work that he never paid them even though I paid him over $15,000 for that as well, putting me at risk for a lien.

Cliff contracted to put an addition to the back of my home. He is a crook. He took $9500 from me with little to show. There has been a series of 18 inch trenches in my backyard since December, 2020. He also took 4 copies of my professional plans and didn't return them. After I retained an attorney I found out that his license had either been revoked or it had expired. He had worked for a time under his wife's license (who didn't have the training for a builder). His LLC has fined him multiple times. Two different law enforcement agencies are pursuing criminal charges against Cliff and possibly his wife, Taylor. He has had judgements pronounced against him in several counties. He is very convincing and charming, but most liars are. He is currently operating as MSB Group Construction. When confronted, he always has an excuse and states he is being persecuted (not prosecuted...although we hope that will happen soon).
