    The absolute worst decision we have ever made..choosing Cantrells Construction out of High Springs, FL. Half truths, delays and responsibility deflection led to his ultimate firing from our single family home build. He tried to renegotiate a set price contract, then abandoned the job after eagerly accepting over $70k in initial funds to build our dream home. If only the State od Florida.DPBR would look more closely into his business practices, the general public would be better of

    We hired Shane to build a barndominium. Once he had our deposit, he became impossible to reach. Lots of excuses, did nothing but keep our money. He has his friends post reviews in an attempt to outweigh the real poor reviews. He’s a crook, do not hire.

    Warning: Florida Barndo Contractor ***Do Not Hire****

    We hired Shane Cantrell of Cantrell's Construction, Inc. to pour the slab and erect our barndominium….huge mistake. If you want full details of our experience feel free to give me a call at 407-952-7998.

    Shane talks a great game when it’s time to collect the check but doesn’t follow thru with anything. Just like the last review he had on google we got all the excuses about his kids…soccer games, dentist appointments, ear infections, fevers, school is closed so he can’t work. A few times he brought his children to the construction site and the workers and I had to tell his son to get off the slab multiple times. He had his son in flip flops swinging pick axes jumping across open footers with steel protruding everywhere….talk about nerve wrecking for a property owner and completely unprofessional!!!     When Shane did show up it wasn’t until 11:00 at the earliest and 2:30-3:00 on some days. I think 2x he was there by 9:30am….in 3 months. On top of that, the work that he did was lazy and sloppy. For example: my footer measurement was off a whole foot and we pointed it out to his helper Dominick but it wasn’t corrected until a day before the pour and now I still have plywood under the ground because he never came back to remove all the batter boards and finish the job. He had his workers come and do a few things , they removed some of the boards and cut some stress cracks but he was too busy “running around getting ready for his vacation” then his son got an ear infection so…
    Example #2: He buried the plastic in my slab, when they had to redig the footers, instead of just removing it first. The crew he had at the time was super mad about it and ended up quitting. My slab was poured with plastic all in the dirt compromising the compression and he himself did that…not his workers or a crew he hired. (I have video and photos of this too.)
    Example#3: My husband and I had to get a dumpster delivered and clean up all the trash and garbage and extra materials laying around our property….it is an excessive amount of stuff.

    Shane also doesn’t take responsibility for anything….if he messes something up you can be sure that “it wasn’t his fault” …smh. He is full of excuses and actually combative when you try to talk to him about the things that you do not approve of.

    He was not able to do anything he signed up for….he doesn’t have a secretary or a crew….it’s just him and a couple of guys he hired a few weeks ago. I had to find people to finish a slab he has been working on for 3 months and if I had left it up to him I would be on month 4 with no slab. I had to order the concrete and schedule all of the trucks because according to him everything was 2 weeks out….even though when I called I was able to get it scheduled right away. I had to order and go pick up concrete finishers because he said he had one but never produced it on the day of the pour.

    As of today we fired Shane….he went on vacation for 20 days in the middle of our contract and left us with a whole mess. We are wayyyyyyyy over budget on the contract and he completely avoided us after the concrete pour and then just left for vacation. He actually sent me a text stating “I’m not avoiding you lol” when in fact that is exactly what he did. And now he is in Michigan for basically the remainder of the month.

    WE tried to be nice because we were desperate (it’s really hard to find someone competent to put up these barndominiums)but we have had enough…we fired him today and requested a refund of half our money. I wish I had seen reviews before I hired him and that’s why I am leaving this here for any future clients that want to save themselves a huge headache. He is not the one you are looking for!
