Design and construction of a tiny house on wheels
    $150,000

We first came to Michael Pearce of Carbon Vudu to do engineering drawings for a tiny house on wheels that we’d designed and wanted to have built. We liked his design aesthetic and he helped us refine our ideas into a series of CAD drawings of the house and its systems.

When our original builders proved unable to complete the job, Michael agreed to build the house as well. His experience with metal working and welded steel structures led to design innovations that really improved the design and construction of the house.

The project was incredibly complicated (to us!) and there were a myriad of design details and changes along the way. Michael and his team found solutions to each design problem and integrated it all into a cohesive whole. Also important was his process of “value engineering”, helping us to rethink some of our design decisions so we could achieve the same results with less time and money.

On such a drawn-out, custom project there are inevitably disagreements over details and schedules, and there were on ours. But Michael worked with us in good faith to resolve all the problems and get our house finished and ready to go on the road. This ability to work through things with the client can be as important as any technical skill.

In the end, our tiny house on wheels is everything we’d hoped for. We’ve been living in it for a year now and have travelled over 3,000 miles, and we are still pleasantly surprised by thoughtful details of design or construction. The house is very livable, the small space serves many functions with ease. The screened back porch has been our favorite living area, open and airy yet very secure and private due to the perforated metal screens Michael recommended. The house is also very road-ready, holding up well to the rigors of life traveling cross-country through interstate highways and cow pastures.

We’re happy with our little house, and highly recommend Michael Pearce and Carbon Vudu for design, architectural, and construction work.
