  House build

  $365,000

  Our home was finished March 2020 as the pandemic was affecting Hawaii and causing closing of most stores plus businesses were being forced to shut down also. I write this 1.5 years later to compliment Carlson Homes, Clint Carlson, on the building of our current home in the Golf & Country Club subdivision across from Hawaii Volcano National Park.
  I have a basic knowledge of the construction business, though not an expert, but I find so much quality built into our home every time I do any maintenance this last year and a half that I continue to be pleased at how well Clint and his crews built our house. Much of the quality was not specified by me but provided by Carlson Homes anyway.
  The most important part of the whole process from initial contact through design to finished house is that Clint is trustworthy and a man of integrity. His word and deeds match. Most people do not understand the details of how to build a house, but you would not need to fully understand as Clint Carlson knows how to deliver a quality house with excellent finishes. Over the years I have built onto several homes both doing it myself and using contractors, Clint is one of the best and worthy of your trust.

  Unfortunately Carlson Homes will not be building my dream home.

  I had been working with Carlson Homes for over a year. They bid my project and I signed their proposal with enthusiasm 11/19. A couple of months later I got a call. They forgot two major details in my design. As a result, the cost went up nearly $62k... I understood and accepted the new proposal.

  Then COVID hit and everything in my life got put on hold...

  Nine months or so later I re-engaged with Carlson Homes and gave them the opportunity to re-bid. Of course everything went up in price. I accepted their proposal again.

  Very recently I made the 3000 mile move to the island with everything in tow. Then, as we were finalizing the contract documents with Carlson Homes and the Material House, Carlson Homes backed out sighting ..."multiple delays"...

  As I have read some glowing reviews, the most current of which was Aug 2016, I can't help but think something has suffered over the years since at Carlson Homes. It's not for me to speculate here.

  I will say that I very much looked forward to Carlson Homes building my dream home. I have been seriously inconvenienced by them backing out leaving me high & dry, and starting from scratch.
