By Joseph M.August 7, 2023Warranty company hired them$3,000Read more
My interaction with Carolina Aire Systems out of Lexington, NC, was beyond infuriating. My home warranty company dispatched them to assess my AC unit, and they claimed that the coil needed replacement. Their subsequent invoice, totaling nearly three thousand dollars, appeared to be a desperate attempt to coerce me into footing the bill for what they insisted was necessary to bring everything "to code."
However, upon closer examination, it became glaringly obvious that this company had artificially inflated items on the invoice by an astonishing 300%. For example, when I sought clarification regarding the alleged requirement for $600 in duct work to replace a coil, they deftly evaded my questions and failed to provide any explanation. To add to the absurdity, they brazenly attempted to charge me an outrageous $375 for a switch that is valued at a mere $35, being generous. Their response to my valid concerns was nothing short of dismissive: "These are our fixed prices, and we do not engage in negotiations." Remarkably, they displayed a complete lack of interest in addressing my concerns or providing any reasonable justification for their outrageously high charges.
What made matters even worse was that this entire invoice was based on their insistence that everything be brought "to code." However, it turns out that their claims were entirely fallacious. Multiple city officials and even the head city inspector, in writing, stated that their assertion was incorrect unless the entire system was to be replaced. To add to the deception, they emailed me fabricated code violations. When I attempted to get the company to clarify these violations, they once again evaded the question, further adding to my frustration.
Carolina Aire Systems' unethical behavior and blatant attempts to extract money from unsuspecting customers are truly reprehensible. I implore others to steer clear of this company, as their practices are nothing short of a disgrace. It is deeply disheartening that such unscrupulous businesses are allowed to continue operating. I strongly advise avoiding them at all costs to spare yourself the aggravation and disillusionment that I have experienced firsthand.

We had the absolute best experience you could have spending the money on a new system. We started down this road with a warranty company, so expectations were low. Definitely turned out way better than expected. From the owner down to the techs, the professionalism was outstanding. The replacement system was installed on a timely matter, and with the communication from Teresa, we always new when and what was going on. Would and have recommended to anybody!!

I was provided reasonable quotes for the work and labor completed on both of my home ac units. Terry and his crew were punctual and made every attempt to respect my house and time in the process. They even registered my new units warranty for me.

Had a great experience. He was to determine our issue under an hour. Our unit was not installed properly before we purchased it. Now we have heat.

100% do not recommend. This is the worst company I have ever used in my life! To start, they don’t answer their phone or return voicemails. All you do is get the run around. If you have a home warranty I urge you to ask for someone besides them. This guy is a crook. There excuses don’t stop. They have damaged my home and after calling them non stop, it’s still not fixed all the way! I would give negative 5 starts if I could.

Called them several times for service and have always shown up done the job I asked and be polite. More recently I had an emergency on a Friday at 530pm called and told them the issue and they said they would try if they could to get to me today. At 8pm a tech shows up and by 9pm my house was cool again. Thanks to this company for making customers their first priority.

Had a very old furnace and AC system in my home. Carolina Aire Systems came out 2 days after my initial call was placed. The technician who came to my home was very knowledgeable and explained everything thoroughly to me. I received a call the follow day saying I needed a new evap coil and it would be about $2400 for replacement. Carolina Aire gave me the option to also purchase a whole new systems through them for around $7000. Once signing the contract everything was smooth sailing from there. From the office staff, technicians, and the install crew everyone was professional and kind. I would recommend Carolina Aire Systems to all of my friends and family!

Outstanding experience with a Heat Pump installed by Carolina Aire. Quality installation. Technician was very knowledgeable and experienced. Owner and technician provided great customer service answering my questions and ensuring I was completed satisfied. I highly recommend this company. They genuinely care about their customers.

The The worst experience I've had and the horrible customer service it has, two different technicians have come James and John the first detected that the blower motor was bad and ordered the parts, after the part arrived he proceeded to install and diagnose that the control board is damaged, they proceed to order the part, they come to install the part and the new technician assures that it is the blower motor that is damaged, lr explains that the previous technician replaced it weeks ago, he does not have professionalism to carry out the work, he called the office and it is always the message box, they are irresponsible and unfair, I do not recommend this company at all avoid a headache.
That was the company that my home warranty sent to carry out the work, now we have to wait until they can come back and have a new solution to the case, do not use Carolina aires System to make repairs to your A/C, avoid headaches and frustrations -
By Eric S.September 26, 2022Redesign, replace, and correct HVAC issues.$14,000
We had a 20+ year old multi-damper system that was failing in a large 5 bedroom, 5.5 bath, 4000 sf+ home that didn't quite cool the upstairs level correctly. We opted to replace and redesign the system.
The system was old and outdated. The owner worked with me to help redesign to a more up to date system that would better service the needs our family.
All the technicians and installation persons were more than helpful, completely respectful, and are more than welcome in my home again.
So with some upgrades, new technology, increase in flow to areas. The home is now cooling and heating correctly.
I have used this company for my home, my parents home, my cousins home, and my vacation home.
I would recommend you ignore these home warranty gripes and complaints. Those belong to the home warranty companies.
My experience was nothing more than pleasant.
Hire the company you won't regret it. -
By Carol S.June 24, 2022HVAC$2,400
Carolina Aire Systems took a little while to come out from my initial call which is understandable considering its hot outside. Once they got here they said that my coil would need to be replaced. Josh was very knowledgeable and told me the office would contact me to go over everything once they submit the report to my home warranty company. the report came back that I have to pay for "mods and codes" out of pocket at $2400. They said they would need to collect this up front since it is company policy. I thought this was a little strange but I paid it anyways because it was 83 degrees in my home on a good day. They came out and installed the coil and then 2 days later the inspector came out and passed the inspection. I spoke with the inspector and he assured me the work they charged me out of pocket for was necessary in my case. I would recommend Carolina Aire Systems to my friends and family! FIVE STARS!!!

I used my home warranty and they sent this company. First they quoted me "code requirements" that were outside of my warranty coverage of 2200. To proceed forward I had to sign the agreement. When the job was done, even the city inspector said he wished he could fail them for such a terrible job. They didn't 1/2 the extra work but claimed otherwise. When I showed them pictures, they said "you signed the agreement to proceed". I will never let anyone I know use them for service if I can help it. They charged $400 for a $2 piece of foam that was not even required by code. They charged me $500 for a electrician to walk in for 2 min to say the job was done. They charged me $200 for a float switch that they reused the original one in the attic. My attorney told me without a court fight, I would have to pay something. I ended up negotiating with them down to $1200.

By Cheryl W.May 31, 2022Fix or Replace furnace$12,000
Right off the bat they demanded $3000 for code upgrades before they would even schedule an appointment and we were freezing so we paid it. I have contacted the North Carolina state plumbing heating everything examiner investigator. I found out they are not supposed to do that. Let me just say it has been a horrible situation Reading the manual and FaceTime with the owner Terry asking how to install my brand new furnace furnace from December 13, 2021 to May 2022. Josh badly destroyed my furnace and A/C coils that he never should’ve touched. Now I have water leaking from the A/C coil pan and the warranty company will NOT give me a manager from The United States. So they won’t do that thing to help. Now my new service order was a/c flooding basement. This Advanced Appliances is trained professional company and they sent in an estimate to repair, replace what Carolina Aire damaged and replace the coils.

We have home warranty, like most on these reviews, and have had a terrible experience with this company. They don’t call back and they don’t follow through with the job. The new unit that was installed 4 months ago still won’t pass inspection and nobody has contacted us to resolve whatever the issue is. The first time they came out the technician took a lunch break and a 2 hour nap in his van. A coworker spent 45 minutes looking for him. He then couldn’t finish the job that day. He was here until about 8:30 that night. He said he would come back the next morning to finish up, which he did not. When he did decide to come back out he brought his girlfriend with him. How extremely unprofessional to have a girl in your van at someone else’s home. Of course the company probably doesn’t know that because they never answer the phone. Tonight the brand new 4 month old unit stopped working. Now we’re stuck with no AC and it’s unlikely we’ll be able to get anyone on the phone. If this isn’t resolved and our unit doesn’t pass inspection very soon we will sue this company.

By Jaimie S.March 30, 2022home warranty repair
I have First American Warranty and this is the top contractor for them in the highpoint area. This company is recommending to replace a evaporated coil in a system over 10+ years. This is NOT a recommendation that any HVAC company would make in a normal situation. By doing this suggestion First American is saying they will support their opinion because this company is staying it will hold up. THIS IS NOT RIGHT on any level. Now this company is estimating what it would cost me to put a new unit in, if I decide to not o the repair ( thru First American ) . SOUNDS A LITTLE FISHY!!!!!

Wish I could give 0 stars. This company is unprofessional, unreliable, and wrong in more than one of their assessments. They don't make their appointments, they don't communicate, they don't even check if their "Fix" fixed the problem. They are a home warranty company so what do you expect. I just can't believe I wasted so much time with them.

By LukeJanuary 7, 2022HVAC repair
Had a service appointment set up for a tech to be on site between 1-5pm, Amy texted me to cancel my appointment at 130 telling me that the tech wouldn't have time to make it to my house but they informed me that I was the next stop. After trying multiple times to reach Amy by phone I finally got in touch with Ashley. I had explained that I have small children in a house with no heat and was told by Ashley that none of the techs would pick up the phone to take on the call. I am now stuck on a friday evening trying to find someone who can fix my system. they should not have taken on the call knowing that they would just screw someone over. HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! THE 1 STAR REVIEWS TELL YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

This company has been infuriating to work with. They text you to set up service and then don't respond. Nobody else can contact them except for the number they text. NOBODY answers the phone - we have called dozens of times over the last week and and left voicemails but nobody calls back. We had them out on Monday to service our HVAC and never heard another thing - our home warranty company FINALLY got ahold of them today (4 days later) and were informed that Carolina Aire Systems never even submitted the approval request for the repair, meaning the part hasn't even been ordered. It is COLD and we haven't had heat since before Thanksgiving. And now with it being the end of the week, and the holiday season, we probably won't have heat for at least a couple more weeks because the repair has to be approved, THEN the part ordered, and THEN they will schedule a technician to come out when the part arrives. Absolutely ridiculous.

By Colleen L.November 4, 2021Replace HVAC$5,600
I had a home warranty that sent this company out when my upstairs unit was not operating correctly. The unit was 20 years old so I felt it best to go ahead and replace the system. It took this company well over a week and multiple attempts to have the county inspect it once installed. Additionally, they did not complete the job appropriately and the system leaked on the floor inside my home the first time the AC was used. This company communicates that a new system qualifies for a rebate with the utility company, but they are not registered with the utility company to even file for the rebate. Calls and emails are not returned. I called my utility company to resolve the rebate issue. Do not use this company. The work is questionable, they have no customer service, and they falsely claim the ability to receive a utility rebate that they are not registered to file for on your behalf. Very shady business practices.

By Kim B.July 17, 2021Find out why ac was not cooling well$450
Terrible service. Temperature in house 80 degrees and outside temp is 90. First trip I was told that my outside unit is too big. It’s not. Verified this with 3 separate ac companies and a general contractor. Call them out again and I was told there is nothing wrong with the system. Both times they were asked to check air handler in attic. Neither tech went into attic. I had no choice but to use them as I have a home warranty and that was who was assigned.
Finally out of desperation I called a local company with good ratings. Outside unit was fine, air handler had clogged main drain causing the float switch to trip and turn off the ac. Don’t waste your time with these crooks. -
By Joyce B.July 13, 2021Fix my air conditioning
Paid 2214.90 to this company on June 25. Was told br Ashley that she cannot order part until I pay in full for service. Ashley Bennett is worst person to work with. They were asked to repair my air conditioner on June 9 2021. Today is July 13. I still do not have air. They continue to tell me they ordered wrong part and will have to reorder. They will not contact you nor answer your call. Do NOT use this company. I asked for invoice when techs come out. No invoice no business card. I have to ask who they are they do not introduce themselves.

I had a service technician who was EXCELLENT! Nando is his name. He came in and after assessing the problem he methodically repaired the problems. I asked him to show me what he was doing - since I knew nothing about AC - and he was excellent in showing me what he was doing and why he was doing it during the repair. Nando was done in no time! So if you have an problem with your AC call Carolina Aire System and ask for Nando as your technician. You won’t be disappointed!

They will close out your case without completing the job. They will play mouse games with you when you reach out to them by phone call. I will not suggest them, unless you wish to have a heart attack.

Paid 1816 bucks to have the hvac fixed. Did not resolve the issue. Damaged all of the carpets on our stairs and hallway, and marked in permanent marker on the walls.

Our warranty company chose this contractor to do our HVAC repair. They came out and found the issue, but took pictures of our Evaporator fan and outside unit and told the warranty company that our unit was dirty and that it was going to cost over $700 to clean it. I called the warranty company and they told me that maintenance was my responsibility. They also told me that I could hire whomever to clean it. I told them that I had a cleaning contract with a company that was rated by the BBB as A+ and that cleaning had been done. The warranty company told me that Carolina Aire said it needed cleaning. I found a local HVAC company that came out and examined both parts and told me that they weren't dirty. I paid them to clean it anyway at substantially less than what was quoted by Carolina Aire. Carolina Aire finally came out and replaced the coils and reassembled our unit. It worked while the Technician was here. A short time later, the unit was no longer working and we were running on emergency heat again. I called out another HVAC person and we replaced a relay on the outside unit and it still would not run properly. This person went under our house and found that the thermostat wire was not connected. Once he connected it, our unit turned on. I would not recommend this company ever again and I have sent a formal letter to my home warranty company to NEVER send this company to me again.
