I needed a contractor who knew foundations and carpentry for an historical high raised Victorian cottage constructed in 1902. It's important that contractors are experienced with these historical homes because construction "norms" were much different a century ago. Obviously with two infamous hurricanes in the past several years wreaked havoc on our town leaving much damage. We specifically needed exterior and interior wood replacement including pilings supporting the home, and replacing water damaged wood. I'd received several bids from various contractors in Galveston and the surrounding area. However none really had the experience in historical homes. Pricing from out of town contractors were relatively higher than the Galveston contractors. I was comfortable with Carr as it is a well-know Galveston company. I felt I needed a locally experienced contractor. Mr. Jim Carr met me at the home and we walked the job, and after he looked closely at everything, as we discussed in detail what was needed, he made suggestions for items which I hadn't identified but was obvious to him. On the spot he quoted me a very reasonable price. He was ready to start the very next day! During his inspection, I had quickly assessed that he really knew his business. I have experience with construction contractors from my work with construction financing in my career, so I knew I could depend on his experience and professionalism and he knew his business. Mr. Carr and his team, worked very efficiently, and had the work completed within a day or two of the timeframe. I trusted his recommendations if he found anything that wasn't anticipated as is inevitable with renovation projects. However, he kept the costs extremely reasonable and did an excellent job. His price was in line with other contractors bid, bit a bit more reasonable, which is always nice. (Perhaps I got the BOI discount!) Mr. Carr and his team impressed me and my husband, and not once did we have any problems whatsoever. He was friendly, helpful and understanding. He completed his task professionally, timely, and efficiently. I would be happy to recommend Mr. Carr for any job he'd undertake, so, if there's anyone out there needing to check a reference, please don't hesitate to contact me. Mr. Carr has my contact info. If there's anyone you can depend on to give you professional, competitively priced, excellent work, it's Mr. Carr. It was a pleasure working with him and his team!

I was remodeling my beach home, adding an additional floor and deck. I got several bids but decided to use Jim Carr as he was experienced with high rise homes and seemed fair in his quote. My building designer also gave me three contractors names, one of which was Mr. Carr. I had the designer draw up my plans. I also had engineers complete the plans with required piling, etc. to meet all code requirements. Mr. Carr gave me a job time of 3-4 months. I would not have been surprised with an eight month time but it has taken 18 months instead. This is due, in my opinion, to poor management, inefficient use of time and resources and too many jobs going at the same time. Most of the crews that work for Mr. Carr are good but as stated management is very lacking. I am currently replacing a double door with a new door again as the first set of doors were warped and the installer did not know how to read plans or what he was doing. Mr. Carr is a well known contractor that will lose customers if he continues to provide this type of service. I personally would be very hesitate about recommending his work.
