We hired Steve to build a casita October of 2021. It is yet to be completed. Yes, there were a few hiccups along the way out of his control but a year is plenty of time. He had told us he would be done in June. The list of issues is extensive but all he wants is the final 10% payment even though the job is not complete. There are quality issues such as he admittedly ruined our yard and pavers but refuses to make the repairs without final payment first. The paint job is terrible throughout. The French doors and 9 windows have cracking paint all around the window from when they pulled the tape. All the doors are half-painted. He damaged our vanity twice. We got it replaced after uninstalling ourselves, reordering and unboxing the new one. He still hasn't installed the replacement and refuses until he gets final payment. He glued our vanity to the wall twice after we told him it was a piece of furniture and didn't go against the wall. Then, he lied and tried to tell us that it needed to be glued to the wall for inspection. The wall still looks terrible from being glued twice. Multiple door hinges do not match and the closet design was made by him and not put in writing resulting in no space for hanging clothing. The pocket doors rub and have extensive damage. We have given him three attempts to get them right, to no avail. The list goes on and on. Throughout the entire project, he worked intermittently with zero communication. He only reached out when he wanted money. We are still waiting for him to fix the quality issues and mistakes that were made but all he does is send us harassing emails from his attorney demanding late fees and final payment even though we are not at a punch-list status yet. The casita is not livable as it needs significant work and there is not a working sink. Please save yourself the heartache and abuse from this person. We should have never let it get this far but gave him the benefit of the doubt. It's a sobering reminder that not everyone has integrity.
