We hired Centennial Construction in February 2016 to build a small addition to our home. The addition is approximately 450 square feet. Centennial Construction misrepresented that it was a quality construction company, with subs that it had been working with for years, and would complete our project in a proper and timely fashion. In fact, the framers that were provided to us were negligent (they, even according to Centennial Construction, did not reference the architect's plans when attaching the roof trusses OR window positions (the windows in the front of the house are off center) and did overall poor quality work. At least the framers showed up - most of the time. Our project has been under construction since April 2016 and, according to David Bayes at a September 22, 2016 meeting (where he apologized for the delays and promised to get going on our project), our project is still less than 50% completed. This project is a simple, open design, mother-in-law suite, as well as a door covering for the original house. The door covering has been under construction since April 2016. We assume it could be completed by a true professional in 1-2 days, yet it is still unfinished 6 months later. We do not have an accurate number, but we believe it would be fair to say that, all together, there have only been around 30 days when workers have actually showed up in the 6 months the project has been under construction. Centennial Construction has requested - and been paid for - in advance for projects that we were told were happening ASAP...and that was months ago. Although we have requested multiple times, we have never received a project schedule or accounting of our funds. The owner, David Bayes, will tell you exactly what you want to hear - and then does nothing. He is not a man or his word and doesn't seem to care that we entered into a contract. This state of this project, the fact that Centennial Construction has been paid too far in advance - and refuses to provide an accounting of our money - has cause major mental anguish to our family. We do not have a lot of extra money - and we have a bad feeling about David Bayes' refusal to provide a current accounting. We have given Centennial Construction the benefit of the doubt for months, and now we are at our final straw. We have an open/unsecured addition and winter is coming. We were told the project would be completed by July. Then it was August. It's now October. We feel like we have been conned by Centennial Construction.

Dave's experience and knowledge made us choose him over several other contractors. He had reference letters from customers in $100K homes to multi million dollar homes and they all raved about him.
His crew was professional, they cleaned up nightly and were polite and helpful when it came to answering our questions.
We now have a wonderful basement with a family room and a full 2nd master bedroom suite that has become the hangout for the family.
Would recommend Dave again and again.

Our experience with Centennial Construction (CC) has been so horrible, I don't even know where to begin. We hired Dave and Sean for a remodel of our new house's kitchen, hard wood floors, partial basement, baseboards, paint, front door side lights and stair hand rails/newell posts. We'd used this company for a previous job to partially finish a basement in our previous home and everything went smooth, so when we received their very reasonable bid to do this house, it really seemed like a no-brainer. Except this time, we were sold a bill of goods. I am writing this mostly to protect others from doing business with this company for their own good. Our life was miserable and consumed by their incompetence for 6+ months.
Sean Dennis, who wasn't with CC when we did our previous job, talks a good game, but turned out was a classic used-car salesman. Great sales and promises, zero delivery. What they didn't tell us when we accepted their bid was that they actually didn't have many skilled professionals lined up to do the work, and they would try hiring off craigslist on the fly, and there would be very little oversight from CC. That meant no workers some days and unskilled laborers doing things they weren't cut out to do on the others with no supervision and limited appearances from Dave and Sean.
Here's a list of some of the projects in our contract:
Kitchen - Let's begin by saying we were without a kitchen for 6 months. The wrong size cabinets were ordered first, and instead of them ordering the correct ones, they ADDED A FOOT OF WALL to both sides of our pantry to make the cabinets fit thinking we wouldn't notice. Absurd. We demanded the walls removed and correct cabinets ordered. Dave said he didn't have the money at the time to get the correct sizes, so I foolishly paid for the correct ones and that was suppose to come off our next payment installment to them. Then the next round of cabinets were so recklessly cared for and stacked in our garage that many were severely damaged. Dave declined to replace the beat up cabinets and only offered a furniture repairman to "band-aid" brand new cabinets. What we are left with is a kitchen that is severely banged up.
Hard Wood Floors - Fiasco from the get-go. We contracted to re-stain our hard wood, which comprises the entire main level and part of the second level. We were told this was a 6 day job by the gentleman they found on Facebook to do the job. This actually took 14 days originally, with our family having to find an alternative place to stay. We returned to find floors that were inconsistently sanded, and also swirl scuff marks throughout our floor from the cylinder sander. Needless to say, the stain looked awful as well. It was finally redone after the original floor guy walked from the job instead of redoing it. It ended up having to be re-sanded and stained, but the scuff marks across our floor remain.
Stair Hand Rails and Newell Posts -
Let's begin by saying they underbid what this project should've actually cost. Their work showed. This might've been the worst quality of all, and that's saying something. They literally had no idea what they were doing when it comes to staining, cutting, and installing hand rails. The stain was so thick it looked like paint, bad paint. My 3yr old could've done better. We had told them the stain was unacceptable before install and they put them in anyway. Then, the balusters were literally flying off and crashing and dinging our main level floors from the 2nd floor when they were taking down he rails. We ended up having the entire rails, newell posts and balusters replaced and redone by a different company that actually knew what they were doing and ended up costing us 5 times the amount we were contracted for with C.C.
Front door side light glass, paint, baseboards -
We were told these pieces of glass were ordered and should've been available to install the next day back in June. We're still waiting. The paint and baseboards work was below average.
We originally were told by Dave & Sean that our entire job would take 5-6 weeks. They started March 8, and mid-August, when our project still wasn't done, I was told by Dave Bayes, the proprietor, that he had no more money to finish our job and he was pulling his workers. Thankfully, a gentleman that used to work with Dave and had project managed our previous basement, had empathy for us and was able to salvage what he could in our kitchen given the disaster Dave left him with.
We were at our wits end multiple times throughout this process, and I could actually write forever about all the crap we went through. I highly recommend you spare yourself from the stress, anxiety, and distress this company puts on your family. I don't know what happened in the 2-3 years between our projects with Centennial Construction but if you're looking for a professionaland an overall enjoyable process, you should look elsewhere
