    2nd story elevation, remodel of main floor and basement

    **Please note that we have filed a complaint against CGC with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission under the Department of Labor and Licensing.

    We did a second story elevation and complete renovation of our main floor and basement, a very large and expensive project. Unfortunately, almost immediately upon signing a contract, we became concerned with CGC's project management process and tools, the lack of transparency and willingness to collaborate with us. Communication was poor and our requests for regular in-person meetings, and a monthly project timeline were ignored. Punch list work and other complaints were never addressed properly, surprise price gouging was a regular occurrence and most importantly, we had a very serious safety scare.
    As a licensed contractor and home inspector, GCG improperly made the terrible decision to vent our existing furnace illegally. Our gas furnace was manufactured to vent vertically out of our chimney and GGC illegally vented it sideways out of our house causing a carbon monoxide back up in our home. We had to call 911 and the fire department shut off the heat with direction to leave it off until we got a new furnace. This resulted in no heat for over a month in the dead of winter.
    Unfortunately, not even in this severe safety situation did we see accountability, humility or an effort to make sure we were satisfied.
    Almost two years after the project finished, we are still finding short cuts and having to continue to spend money to repair sloppy work. Some examples include: a bowed wall, poorly done carpentry work large amounts of concrete buried in our yard, multiple plumbing issues, improperly done caulking causing water leaks and damaged drywall, HVAC ducts not connected to floor and wall vents, poorly framed doors causing them to constantly close or swing open. We also had our basement back up and flood due to a measuring tape found 22 feet down our main pipe.
    Prospective customer, please do yourself a favor, do your homework and look beyond this builder.

    In response to the review the homeowner has filed several complaints and most have been resolved to the Builders favor. The owner's have walked out of mediation because they did not get their way and have tried to blame us for items that were never on the contract. They were upset because they did not receive items for no cost that they thought they were entitled to. Through the entire building process of a design/build they did not express any concern until they did not receive the no cost items they wanted towards the end of the project and they have tried multiple times to try and blame us for a furnace issue on an old furnace that they did not want replaced until it had issues. They did not finish paying for their contract at the end which created service delays and have made threats for money if they did not get their way. We have given them a new HVAC system for no charge and resolved all the claims yet they are still trying to make us look bad and keep threatening us until they get what they want. The measuring tape issue was a result of them hiring a non-licensed person after we were done with the project to come in and do a bathroom because they did not want to pay a licensed person's price and we were not at fault for this. These allegations are false and these customers were not easy to work with and were continually making decisions behind each others backs. Contractors beware if you are ever asked to do any business with these customers.
