He is the worst contractor ever. He does not finish even a single job, he takes money and leaves the job half way and disappears with every job.. DO not hire him....

A terrible contractor! - poor workmanship, far slower than promised, did not finish, then effectively disappeared. He kept money for work not done. We spent thousands extra to finish and correct his work. Project was a cosmetic kitchen renovation - new tile floors, new backsplash and counters, new lighting, new hardware, a couple new appliances, two new cabinets (kept most existing cabinets). Problems: Tile floor installed unevenly and incomplete--visible rubble from floor he tore out rather than tile under range, HVAC floor vents won't seat on uneven tile etc. Poor electric work required redo - he left under cabinet lighting two feet short, installed receptacles badly. Carpentry a mess: installed hardware on some drawers way off center, left cabinet doors with half inch gaps, installed baseboard with raw ends, and visible gaps. Collected for and bought cabinets that did not match existing - promised to exchange but never did- we had to find new ones and eat that expense. (Counters and backsplash are fine because we had others do them). He made constant excuses about slow pace. Once we started complaining about workmanship, Charles disappeared and stopped responding to calls/texts/emails or letters. He collected for more than he did and it cost us thousands more to have others finish and correct his work. Avoid this guy - he is personable and charming, but dishonest and shoddy.

DO NOT HIRE!! Nightmare! Charles started my 1100 sq ft basement finishing project in Feb 2011 and it was never completed. He walked away from the job and left us with roughly 15 code violations that we needed to fix out of our own pocket. Routinely made mistakes, he and his workers were messy and didn't clean up completely, didn't show up for appointments, asked for checks ahead of the scheduled payment checkpoints, and forgot details about telephone discussions that impacted the design of the basement. He was upbeat and enthusiastic about the project from the beginning, which is what won him the job, but as soon as you ask him about anything (cost, schedule, design) the working relationship soured. He did NOT like us inspecting his work and we routinely found issues that needed to be resolved. There were many times where he was not onsite and unreachable by phone and we were left with his two workers on the job site with open questions. Many a day passed with no work completed. His workers often showed up with no materials or necessary tools to begin the day's work. Sometimes they even showed up on days they were not scheduled to come. Any complications or delays in the project were NEVER his fault. I put a bar in my basement and it needed to be redesigned twice because of details he dropped the ball on. I think he spreads himself too thin and that caused problems with forgetting details, scheduling hassles, and materials delivery and pickup. Any positive review I find on web sites I have to think has come at the expense of two or three other unfortunate homeowners. All this was compounded by the fact that he's rude, unprofessional, and is most definitely not worth the hassle.

DO NOT HIRE. Will commit to timing and projects that he can not make, while collecting half the money or more in the first few weeks. Took over 4 months to complete a job that was budgeted at 4-6 weeks.

Charles has just finished our very large basement with full bath, bar, fireplace(stone work to die for) and home theater. He is a contrator that cares for his clients and we see why he is successful. Were ready to enjoy.

Charles did our basement and kitchen. He was a bit slow getting the job done but his work was second to none. He's very talented and I would use him again for any large projects.

BEWARE!!! BEWARE!! DO NOT HIRE CHARLES WAGENHOFFER!!! Charles began work on our basement in Sep, 2011 and in his contract stated that work would be completed in 4-6 weeks. More than 4 months later we were forced to fire him after numerous and repeated failed attempts to have him complete the job. We are now left with a 1/2 finished basement that Charles collected up-front payment for and will have to pay thousands of dollars to repair more than 3 Show More4 damaged/incomplete items. We did our homework - checked references (which we now know were years old), and toured 2 homes. Both of the people who so kindly showed us their homes have since contacted me to say that they have subsequently spent thousands of dollars repairing things that were installed improperly or have begun falling apart and they also cannot get Charles to return their calls or repeated requests for help. We are educated, professional adults and thought we had done everything necessary to find a good contractor. Our biggest mistake was listening to Charles explain away other negative reviews by blaming the problems on the homeowners. You can feel free to contact us at ldcrjl@gmail should you desire any further information or would like to see proof or documentation of this review. Sadly, we have MORE than enough. DO NOT hire him. It is our single biggest regret. We want NO ONE else to go through this living nightmare.

"Fired 3/11, 4 months into a project estimated at 6 weeks -Routinely promised to do things and then didn't -I spent thousands repairing damages he claimed were not his fault, but were done where he was working -Charged me for inspections the town inspector said are included in the up front permit cost -Failed to include basic work in the proposal -Asked for checks written to him personally vs. the business -Didn't purchase major elements (tile, stone, fireplace, doors, etc) despite collecting most of the money -left rubble all over the house and yard -plenty of excuses and blaming of others Basically a nightmare!!!"
