Referred to Chilcutt by many of my neighbors with very good reviews. I had to call at least 4-5 times over a week before he ever called back. Once we met he was professional, knowledgeable and short on time. We had a few rushed conversations after the initial consult in addition to scheduling hiccups that put us out over 6 weeks to begin our project. This without us having come to a final or even a singular plan. This didn’t set well.
I tried to set up another face to face where I’d hoped to finalize the design plan with general layout before committing to his start date then owing a down payment. Not to happen, I believe my asking questions and making suggestions contrary to what his plan was for my yard was unacceptable.
Then out of the blue i got a call to say my start date was being pushed out 8-10 weeks from the already 8 weeks out date. No explanation.
I was obviously frustrated, fuming, maybe a bit, when I requested he remove me from calendar and cease anything he may have been working on for me.
The next day Juan showed up at my house. He says he’s with chilcutt, he has made the time (at Paul’s request), to get our job done now. Where would I like to start blah blah blah
I called paul he confirmed he’d let Juan know about the job and said he could do it now or I could wait indefinitely for Paul himself to do it. Not wanting to wait, Juan started the following Monday.
After killing 3 of my large 20’ + trees, stealing the mulch from 3 enormous trees he removed, screwing up the existing sprinkler system so now 3 settings go to tied off leaking lines, damaging the main twice, planting the wrong sod (unbeknownst to me at the time) incorrectly transplanting every thing I asked him to and to the wrong places. And 10k! He left here mad as hell cursing me in Mexican. The job is unfinished, most of what he said was completed and was paid for I’ve had to redo myself or pay another to do. The concrete is 3 different shades of darkish whitish gray and cracking, the water still pools toward the house, I can’t use my sprinkler system, I’ve replaced nearly all of the plants he put in without the mulch from my trees but rather chunks of aggregate to hold the plants in place in the holes he didn’t even fill in. When I questioned Paul Chilcutt his response was yeah I know Juan he used to work for me as a Gardner years ago. He doesn’t work with me, he’s not licensed as a landscaper or for concrete. Did he say I gave him the job cause I didn’t he probably just stopped by to talk to you cold and you are confused.
Huh. Is that right!
Paul Chilcutt left his scruples at some curb some time ago of that I am not confused.
No i have never been able to get Juan whatever his name is to come back. I’m a woman, he’s a man, I know what I want, he wants to tell me what I want and why and for how much and I’m to like it. I’m not that girl. ??♀️ I am a pretty good landscaper now with the help of green thumb and moon nurseries gurus and my dads old yard tools. Lesson learned.
