Mr Taylor,
I want to thank you for your quick response to my project. But, I want to tell you about my experience with your company.
On April 26th, you came to inspect the work I needed done. You determined I needed work under the house. Remove an existing beam and replace it with a 2x12. Not an easy task due to the small crawl space.
You called back and told me that I would pay for all materials and supplies, which I agreed to, and I did. At this time you let me know that there would be a $50 non-refundable service fee, that would go towards the bill if you were awarded the contract. I agreed and paid it. You told me the project would take “a day and a half, Twelve (12) hours”, and the labor costs would be $464. That comes to about $40/hour, for a two man crew. We agreed to proceed. The project was to begin the next day, April 27th at 8AM.
The day of the project, Joe (one of your crew members) didn't show up till around 9AM, an hour after the agreed time. We sat out front waiting on you until 10AM until he called you. You had him cut the vinyl and remove a pine board so you could Inspect it when you got here. He did, and sent you pictures. Then we waited again till a little after 11AM when you showed up, 3 hours late.
We discovered all the work would be at floor level, not under the house. At 2:30PM I wrote you a check for $350. You add that to the $50 I gave you the day before, the project wound up costing me $400 in labor. Your company was at my house for 4 hours. Those 4 hours included a lunch, and a trip to the hardware store. So lets call it 3.5 hours of actual labor. That came to $114 / hour. What happened to the original agreement of $40 an hour labor?
Seems a bit expensive considering all that was done was basically removing 5 pine boards and screwing a single piece of plywood to the floor. Especially considering, even though we did get rid of the original problem, a high spot, we were still left with an uneven lip around the edges of the plywood, where the repair met the original floor. That was remedied by the floor installers not your company.
You told me you would return the next day to remove the debris you piled up in my front yard. I was going to give you this letter at that time instead of sharing it publicly. As we both know, you never showed back up. So here we are.
Disappointed,
Rich M.
