    Nathan and team did an outstanding job on our deck remodel. I really appreciated how communicative he was throughout the project. He also provided a digital rendering of our deck before we started so that we could make informed design choices, which helped a ton. I look forward to working with Coons Construction in the future and highly recommend them!

    Kitchen remodel

    Coons Construction completed a studs-out kitchen remodel for us, combining an existing kitchen and dining room into a new, open kitchen with an island, eating area, and sitting area. Two things stand out. First, the quality of workmanship is excellent. Nathan is knowledgeable, skilled, and meticulous. His work- and the work he insisted on from subcontractors- was done to a high standard. Second, the level of communication was outstanding. We have significant previous experiences with contractors (including a whole-house remodel), and communication as to progress, changes, and cost was always an issue. In contrast, we always knew with Coons what was being done when, what it would cost, and why the timing and cost were what they were. Nathan was open to questions both naive ("How do you ensure that the beam remains level?") and challenging ("Why are the windows more expensive than we had planned?"). He was always willing to listen to our input and change course if the solution we came up with together was better than what he had initially planned.
    Given the cost of and disruption caused by any renovation work, the process is always going to be complex. We were able to count on Coons to do excellent work and keep us informed throughout. We are extremely happy with the project Coons did for us and will use them again.

    Basement remodel

    We turned our unfinished basement into an awesome area that now includes an office, living room, kitchenette, laundry room, and bathroom. Coons Construction was essential to this remodel. We had some tricky things to tackle and Nathan Coons put thought into how to tackle them while keeping everything to code and aesthetically pleasing.

    Our communication with Coons Construction was timely and straight forward. Regarding budget, Nathan talked us through the reality of how much some things were going to cost and where we could save if we wanted. We were able to meet our budget!

    Coons Construction will be a part of our next remodel and design planning.

    Replace steps and handrail of front deck

    We had an overall great experience working with Coons Construction. There was quick and clear communication handled by the team. Nathan is punctual and timely, which was very refreshing compared to the previous contractor. Nathan was actually at our house to fix the unfinished projects from said previous contractor. :) We felt Nathan gave us realistic expectations for the scope of the project and seemed very knowledgable about other questions we had for him. He was tidy and respectful of our spaces, children and dog. He puts pride into his work and we are happy with the finished product. Also, he isn't afraid to work in the pouring down rain!
    Looking forward to more house projects together in the future! Thank you!

    Kitchen remodel & upstairs flooring

    I truly hope that someone who is considering hiring Coons Construction LLC (owned by Nathan Coons) reads the full review (linked below) first. I know it’s lengthy, but we wanted to be thorough. Choosing a contractor for a remodel is not a decision that should be taken lightly, so I encourage you to gather as much information as you can before signing a contract. Don’t just read reviews; ask for references, and look up the contractors using their contractor license ID to see if there are any lawsuits or complaints against them.

    In short, Nathan was untruthful with us from the beginning and demonstrated poor work ethic and time management. We would never hire Nathan Coons again, nor would we recommend him to anyone else. It’s unfortunate, because he has strong skills and knowledge when it comes to building. That just isn’t enough to compensate for all of the other short-falls and incompetencies we dealt with throughout the remodel.

    While Coons Construction has systems in place for communication throughout the project, a misunderstanding has occurred here that we regret. We appreciate the positive comments in the review but do not agree with the negative. Coons Construction has photos of completed projects to share during the sales process. As stated in the estimate, this project was never scheduled for 100% completion. As agreed upon with the client, an official completion date was not set, as the project took place over the holidays and during the pandemic. The project finished under budget with only one item not completed as stated in the estimate but did include several completed change orders. Coons Construction agreed to let the client complete items on the project to save on cost. We have had success with these terms on other projects, but this appears to be an example of this type of agreement not working. As stated in the review, this was the first large remodel for these clients. Going through a remodel while living in the house, at any time, has its challenges. Add to that the timing of the project during the holidays and the pandemic, and we realize that more effort should have been made to check in with how the clients were feeling as the project progressed. We have reviewed our systems and process for good communications after this review and have implemented improvements on an existing good system.
