I contracted Coppin Heating to do a conversion from Oil to Gas this Winter. Mr Coppin was knowledgeable of local ordinances and permits and he took care of all the arrangements for subcontractors (asbestos removal, Plumbing and Oil Tank).
His men were courteous and hardworking, and very detail focused. The redone Pipework was not done shoddily or too quickly and looked neater than what I had before.
I chose Coppin after going down the list with a couple of contractors supplied by National Grid and chose this fellow even though his price was a little higher:
1-- He promised to take care of all the permits and notifications. A few other contractors didn't want to bother with even doing the City Permits. Or if you insisted, the price went up by a thousand. And then I would be worried about what permits I had no knowledge up that could be hit with fines for later.
2-- He didn't picked the most expensive furnace/boiler-- but he didn't go with the cheapest either. Never go Dirt-Cheap with a Furnace. You don't want to have to worry about it for years. I learned this from when my parent's had a furnace repair.
3-- He can communicate via email. It's great for coordination & scheduling.
