When I and my wife began searching for a reputable contractor to remodel both our upstairs and basement bathrooms in our home during the middle of pandemic we were unsure and decided to use buildzoom.com to secure a contractor who was qualified & dependable ...... after filtering thru more than several contractors - we selected a young professional contractor who superseded all of our expectations-

Mr. Corniel & the entire Corniel Construction staff were complete professionals , polite, accommodating , and respectful & timely while conducting work in our home .

Mr. Corniel & staff are extremely skilled and I highly recommend Corniel Construction as a contractor and we will be definitely be utilizing there services in the future . There communication skills were awesome and the workmanship is really impressive ! It was a pleasure conducting business with Corniel Construction !

I did not move ahead with Corniel Contracting beyond their initial phone call to me in response to a request I made for contracting bids on BuildZoom.com for the following reasons:

    1. They were very good about getting in touch quickly soon after I placed the information and request for contractors on BuildZoom. However, the woman who called me (I think her name was Waldy) did not sound very professional, and actually sounded as if she was doing me a favor by talking to me. She didn't sound very customer-friendly -- only slightly arrogant, even though I'm sure that was not the way she intended to sound. If it was, I would have been even more surprised than I initially was. It mostly just sounded as if she needed more training, and was trying to sound confident, but it came off as sounding cold and arrogant.

    2. Waldy didn't even introduce herself when she called -- she only said it was Corniel Construction. I had to ask her what her name was, so already it felt like I was the one who was working hard to establish some kind of personal connection, which is always important when you're hoping to work with someone on something as important as a construction job which typically takes weeks.

    3. The biggest reason I didn't pursue speaking with them any further, though -- and this is a really big one -- is that all of a sudden, half way through speaking with her, suddenly a man continued the conversation. I had absolutely no idea anyone else was even on the line. Waldy not only didn't introduce herself to me by name, but she didn't even think to say "Hello, this is Waldy, calling from Corniel Construction, and my associate, X, is also on the line. We'd like to talk to you about your interest in using our company," etc., etc.

In other words, it was the basic etiquette stuff like that that was missing. I was just very surprised all the way around at the lack of professionalism during the very first phone call, that I didn't want to pursue speaking with them any further, and definitely not working with them, if that was the way they do business. First impressions are important, and they just didn't make the cut. And I'm not a particularly picky type of person when it comes to these things. However, I do trust my gut, and I just didn't have confidence in the whole company based on this initial impression.

I do hope that they will use this information as an opportunity to try to improve some of the specific issues noted above, since I can't comment on the quality of their work (although I must say that having so many people leaving nothing but five-star reviews so soon after one another -- June 28 and 30, and then five days in a row -- July 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 -- does seem as though they are trying to push the one-star review by Gonca E. in April 2020 down far enough so that people immediately only see the excellent reviews -- presumably so that it looks like the one-star review is an anomaly -- something by one disgruntled client, rather than the norm.

Anyway, all of the above are my own personal impressions based on the initial phone call, as well as a follow up phone call (forgot to mention this one) the very next day, when I was rushing out to do something urgent, and Waldy kept pushing to nail down a date they could come to see the apartment to give an estimate, or a specific time she could call back to talk about the job, etc., etc.

It was really a bad time for me to talk, and she just kept pushing to get me to agree to a follow up phone call, that it annoyed me even more, since it was so obviously pushy.

I have no idea who the guy was who was suddenly on the phone the first time around without my knowing that there even WAS another person listening to my conversation with Waldy, and I certainly cannot speak to the quality of their work, like the other person who wrote such a terrible, personal review (which is also difficult to read because it just seems so nasty and vindictive -- as does Corniel's response, which is equally inappropriate for this kind of review space.

Either way, I won't be using them for the reasons above, without even getting as far as hearing what kind of price they would charge, and what it would include. (I actually just saw in BuildZoom that they submitted a bid of $3,000, based on some general description that I gave them about painting the LR, DR, hallway, and one BR. We just didn't get far enough along in the conversation for me to know what they were basing that amount on, since they didn't even see the place yet.

Anyway, apologies for such a long review, but I think it's an important one, and hopefully useful information for Corneil to improve their communication with prospective customers.

The Corniel team remodeled our condo with new floors, paint, bathrooms, and a beautiful new fireplace. Of all the contractors we had make bids, The Corniel team was the most patient, trustworthy, and flexible. The workers were respectful and knowledgeable throughout the 2 month process. They even checked in with our neighbors to keep them happy during the construction process. We would certainly use them for future projects!

    Commercial Buildout
    $120,000

We filed a lawsuit against Waldy from Corniel Construction when he took our money, hired an unlicensed electrician, and walked off the job. We sued him and won a judgement for the money he took from us. We upheld our end of the agreement- we would remove our blog post (which showed up on page one of Google) and all of our bad reviews and Waldy would pay us back the money he took from us. Waldy has been running from the judgement for two years now, however, we are reopening the judgement and posting up the reviews once again. Many of his positive reviews online are not real. Back when we hired him, we didn't realize that his family and friends were the ones leaving all his good reviews. He disabled his Facebook page for recommendations and reviews because so many people were going on there- people he owed money to, and requesting he pay his bills. One of the biggest reasons he left New Jersey was because he kept moving around from town to town, screwing people over, and he was getting caught. So now he's in New York, but he still owes people money.

Response from Corniel Construction LLC June 5, 2020
Corniel constructions expanded serving our clients in the tri-state are . We are licensed , bonded and insured in both states .Corniel construction is proud of all the work completed , satisfied with repeat clients through out the decade . We are grateful for The great reviews our residential and commercial clients take the time to complete . As we know trust and work ethic plays an important role in the success of our company . Anyone who has concerns about this situation . Feel free to asked we have court documents , emails , pictures and messages that prove the facts . The esendemir sisters portray as young professional entrepreneurs . But in reality go around suing their landlords , insurance company & any opportunity they can find . This a personal vendetta. They initially requested for us to give them a discount on their contract . Which we agree . In return They offer us their future restaurant construction jobs . Help with our marketing and website .As start up construction back in 2014 . With only a few years of opening . We thought this as a great opportunity . Only to realize it was the worst business mistake . For their project We made an agreement with a licensed electrician to pull electrical permits . When the electrical permit were approved , he change his mind . He was no longer interested in working . We then hired a second electrician and in the middle of the process of switching permits . The first electrician send a letter to the building department to pull his permits out . Causing a stop work order for electricity only. We then later explain to the Esendemir sisters the situation and assume all the responsibility . But the esendemir sister wanted for us to pay their rent, light bill , cam and insurance . According to them $20,466 of loss . Even after all the electrical was completed . We offer to pay their rent . But they decided to move forward and not work with us anymore . A Month later to find out they couldn’t resist opportunity to sue corniel construction. Acussing of abandoning the job site . Which this was far from the reality . They passed their electrical inspection, plumbing and building . Thanks to corniel construction and their subcontractors . And could have passed all their other inspections . But they thought suing corniel construction will gain them more money . After a year of discovery and back and forth with lawyers . Corniel construction decided to sign a settlement agreement . Where they had to remove their reviews , full of false accusations and hate . Corniel construction paid over $20,000. Only because Gonca esendemir made a personal vendetta Going all around online writing reviews . Making false accusations , false statement and bending the truth about our work ethic ,employees and family . This could have been resolve back in 2014 . In the End only the lawyers benefited from it . Who were paid thousands to sign a settlement agreement . There is no judgement against Corniel construction . Gonca must be confused with their previous lawsuits against , contractors , landlords and insurance . Anyone concern feel free to let us know . We have court documents with settlements . Text messages where they prohibited corniel construction to go back to work . So they can sue . Contract that prove they are lying about the quantity of the contract , receipts of settlement payments . Electrical inspections was passed thanks to our second electrician . Please don’t hesitate to request court document ,contracts ,receipts , messages or email . We apologize for any inconvenience this personal vendetta may cause .

This job was no easy task. A complete condo renovation including removing popcorn ceilings, 3 bathroom overhauls, new solid wood flooring throughout, electrics, crown moulding with cove lighting, drywall, custom doors, paint throughout. Not the least of which included dealing with impossible rules and regulations with the condominium association, building permits and the like. Yikes! Corniel Construction headed by Waldy Corniel was fantastic! The work was superbly executed and the team was professional curtious and skilled. Everyone went out of their way to make sure I was happy with the work and any changes/modifications were done without question. The even helped with the material purchases and pickup. The attention to detail was equally impressive. I highly recommend Corniel Construction and would have them back the minute I need more work done!
