Had a custom home built by Covenant Homes in 1999. It was the worst experience I've ever had. They fought us on every custom thing I wanted to do. Always with the response "Most people don't want it that way." Duh, that's why I hired a custom builder. There were so many things not done to my specifications that I was ready to walk away from it. Dennis, the owner, gave us his "I'm a Christian. That's why I named my company Covenant Homes." speech. But his business practices sure didn't reflect it. He promises anything you ask for up front. Then comes up with excuse after excuse as to why he can't do it. I will say, the one thing he did get exactly the way we wanted was the master bath.
My advice, find another builder.
List of things not done correctly...
Home was supposed to have "raised" slab - didn't happen
Front porch was supposed to be 8' deep - got 3'6" deep porch
Wrong color brick ordered - we conceded and accepted wrong brick
Brick veneer was supposed to be 1st floor only - Entire 2nd story rear bricked
Back door patio - 2'x3' pad at back door
Wrong stain color used on custom kitchen cabinets - I painted custom homes for many years. I even showed his painter which stain to use and HOW to do it.
Did not route stove hood to outside
Custom computer desk with keyboard drawer was built as a bookshelf with a kitchen cabinet under it.
Never was able to understand how I wanted my stair railings. Even after showing him pictures. I ended up hiring a welder to build a metal railing.
