  finish basement

  This past May we hired Alex to finish our unfinished basement. At first Alex seemed very trustworthy and honest so I felt very comfortable with hiring him. We wanted to frame up a bathroom, laundry room and storage room. Initially Alex said that it would be around 8 weeks max for project completion. The first issue that we ran in to was me trying to find a plumber that could complete the bathroom portion. Alex and his guys still worked very quickly to complete everything they could, then waited on the plumber to complete his portion. I was understood Alex was busy and due to the plumber hang up, I didn't press Alex at all on coming back out to the house for a couple weeks. At this point it had been about 3 months since Alex started the project and I hadn't heard from him at all in over 3 weeks. I called him with no answer but later he texted me and said he would have someone out in two weeks to complete the project. Two and and half weeks go by, no one shows up, no phone call, no text, no communication. So I texted him again, and he says the same thing, someone would be out in a couple weeks. Then again in a couple weeks, no one shows up and no call, text, email, nothing. It ended up being two months that Alex didn't show up to my house and, unless I reached out to him, he wouldn't communicate at all with me. I tried to be patient, once again understanding he was busy and the plumber delay, but this project was started in may. So I finally got a phone call from him after several failed attempts to get ahold of him. This was the first week of October. I let him know that I really needed this project done before November. Once again, this was started in may. He assured me that wouldn't be any issue. Then over the next few weeks there were multiple times he said he would be out the next day, yet he wouldn't show up, call text or communicate at all why he kept saying he would come then just ghost me me the following day to include ignored phone calls and texts. Long story short, He didn't finish until the second week of November, and that took me constantly texting, calling and expressing my displeasure with what was going on. Not only did he continue to repeatedly lie to me throughout the over six months he drug this job on for, he also didn't clean leftover sheetrock and materials out of my basement. I had a pile of trash bags and leftover material sitting in front of my house for a month, and he only took it the last day because I told him to. To top it off, when I asked for receipts and or a invoice for the work that was "completed" he told me I had to show him my records first so he could make sure that his matched. Now we are in the middle of November, well over six months from the project start date, I have not received a invoice, and My basement is still not cleaned up. He lied to me constantly, made no attempt to communicate, took a two month job into over six months, didn't even show up to my house for two of those months and wont produce a invoice. Alex is extremely disrespectful, and proved very un trustworthy. Once again, I tried to be very patient and understanding be he took that and ran with it. He even tried to tell me I still owed him a quarter of the project cost the last time he showed up. If you want a project to drag on for months, have a pile of trash in front of your house, have someone constantly lie, and still try to get more money out of you, Alex is your guy. If anyone wants proof, I have kept bank records, call and text logs to back up what I am saying. Apologies for the long rant, but I hope this helps warn someone before they hire someone this unprofessional.
