Arael is a amicable person but doesn't know what he is doing. His workers work hard but when it comes to tile installation, complete amateurs. I hired Areal's Custom Flooring to work on my house recently and the demolition went fine. The installation of the 18x18 marble tiles is where it went south quickly. The installed tiles were crooked, not even, rotated with uneven spacing, chips on edges and corners and even one with a diamond saw cut on it. The entire installation look horrible and was a complete disaster. Arael and his installer blamed the condition on the tiles not being 'rectified'. The tiles were 'rectified' as confirmed by the manager of the store where I bought it from. The manager also confirmed from the photos I showed that the installation problems were due to the lack of skill of the installer and not due to any issues with the tiles. This told me that Arael and his installer didn't know what a rectified tile was and his installer couldn't do the job correctly. It is a shame that they tried to lie their way out of it.
I had to stop the job before all the tiles were finished. The entire contract (including wood flooring) was cancelled due to the lack of confidence in their skills.
I had Arael's team take out the partially installed marble flooring and clean up the concrete surface. Arael would not replace the tiles he incorrectly installed and wanted more money for his labor. I gave him a full accounting of all his costs both labor and materials expended up to this point per contract but he stated that his costs were more. Therefore, he does not have any money to purchase the replacement tiles. Therefore, he is walking away from the job even though he still owes me $590.00 from the $18,000.00 down payment and 25 boxes of 18x18 tiles which he said he will not be replacing as he doesn't have the money. A total fraud!
This is on top of changing his costs AFTER the contract was already signed as he stated he didn't measure the flooring correctly. I conceded and added $3,000.00 more to the contract value after the fact. Now, he stated that he spent all the money for materials and want to be paid for the labor for demolition.
This individual is unethical in the way he does business. He should not be trusted as he goes back on his word and will low ball the customer and then go back to ask for more money. What is written in the contract is not relevant to him as he says he has receipts backing up his exceptionally high cost. This individual and company will be reported to the Department of Consumer Affairs.
