Dwayne Stewart of D Stewart Construction LLC has scammed dozens of unsuspecting people out of their homes. He writes bad checks, takes security deposits and earnest money deposits, and has even stolen homes using a well-known loophole in Philadelphia's deed recording system. You are STRONGLY encouraged to Google this man's name and check out the dozens of lawsuits against him in Philadelphia municipal and civil courts (courts.phila.gov) prior to entering into any business arrangement with him.

Wow, Dwayne Stewart is in a heap of trouble--it's way too easy to find dirt on him. Check out the dockets on his 2 court cases from 2010. He took security deposits for his properties at 916 W Huntingdon and 1420 S 8th St, and ran. In one case, he stiffed a woman for $800; in the other case, some poor guy got scammed out of $2,250.
This guy wants us to think he's a big-time developer, but he appears to be nothing more than a slumlord and a fraud.
ETA: Want to know why he scammed that guy out of $2,250 to rent a property at 1420 S 8th St? Because Dwayne Stewart does not own that property--he rented it from the owner, Phong Duy Lam, who sued Mr. Stewart in November 2009 for more than $8,500 in back rent and utilities owed from July to September 2009. Instead of paying up, Dwayne found some poor dude and convinced him that Dwayne was the owner of the 1420 S 8th St, and assured the guy that could rent it starting in December 2009. The guy paid Dwayne "first and last months rent" and switched the electric bill into his own name in preparation for moving in. Then, according to the court dockets, Dwayne told him the property "wasn't ready." By January 2010, Dwayne had racked up a $500 electric bill in the man's name and had run off with his $2,250 deposit.
Earlier in 2009, according to another docket, Dwayne ran off with an earnest money deposit of $4,500 for the sale of 4817 N. Front St. He seems to have a bad habit of doing that.
And if this is what 2 people dug up in one day, I am guessing we only scratched the surface. I'd love to see what Isaiah Thompson has to say about it
