    Bathroom renovation
    $75,000

We used Dan for a bathroom renovation in 2018. He obviously was rushing to finish the job which lead to some inconsistencies from a visual perspective (sloppy chair rail tile installation, for example) but even more worrisome, what appeared to be a wavy tile line at the bottom of our shower. Since then, we have learned that he spot bonded our tiles which has resulted in mold growing in our shower due to the space gap. As a sole prop I understand that the scope of work can be large...but in that case, don't accept large jobs.

    1st floor and kitchen renovation
    60 days

In 2013 Dan was our contractor and craftsman for a total 1st floor renovation including the kitchen. He transformed our dreary, outdated home into lovely living areas and beautiful kitchen. He listened to our thoughts and individual ideas about each room and had many suggestions to enhance them. He is a talented carpenter, and did a wonderful job with crown moulding, custom shelves and a fireplace mantel as well as tile flooring and kitchen tile. Our home had some strange features that he managed to fix inhe process. He has fine aesthetics so you will not be disappointed. We stayed on budget and pretty much on schedule and could not be happier with our renovations.

    Basement and Family Room Remodel
    $50,000

We hired Dan to remodel our basement and family room. He provided us with an estimate and completed the work exactly as was promised. As he was completing the work, we asked him to add some additional work to the job and he did so without hesitation. The job was completed and his work was top notch. Dan is a master carpenter and uses only high quality supplies. I have gotten so many complements on the work that he has done!

    Front Porch/Inside stairwell
    $35,000
    14 days

Dan Masterson’s work is nothing less than extraordinary. He has done two complicated jobs at our circa 1870, Victorian home and the results were beautiful. As important as his artistry in the design was his expertise and craftsmanship involved in the creation of the details needed to actualize the project.

The stairway in our home was a structural hazard, pulling away from the outside wall of the house, with a banister one would not dare depend on for support. There were a dozen or more unique spindles missing or cracked and the runners were so bare we could see if our basement lights were on. Dan solidly rebuilt the staircase and reconstructed the banister with the effect of it looking as if it were completely original and authentic to the home.

He is the neatest contractor I have ever worked with, cleaning up the site after each day of work and considerate of our needs to access the second floor by working on every other step until the job was done! He finished the job in less than a week which I realized was due to the considerable planning and preparation he had done before even arriving to begin the job.

We were so happy with Dan’s work that we hired him again to rebuild the front porch of our home. Through his attention to detail and knowledge of historic reconstruction, he managed to enamor our town’s historical commission, member of which would stop by on a daily basis to watch the progression of the job. Needless to say the completed porch was more accurate to the house and the neighborhood than what had been there for probably a hundred years.

We will hire Dan again to remodel one room or another, despite having to wait until his schedule permits and the expense of his expertise and artful eye for design. He is more than a craftsman, he is an artist and I would recommend him to anyone.

    Basement, Kitchen & bathrooms
    180 days

Dan Masterson renovated our basement in 2011. In 2016, he renovated two bathrooms, a kitchen and he rebuilt our deck. Dan acted as the general contractor, carpenter and he installed all of the tiling. He has a good eye for design and we were able to eliminate the cost of engaging a kitchen designer. He has good contacts and he engaged and coordinated competent plumbers, electricians and cabinet makers.

Dan is a good listener and always respected our wishes and always delivered as promised per written and spoken agreements. As with all contractors, make sure you have solid written agreement with deliverables, a time line and a payment schedule.

We’re completely satisfied and happy with the outcome. The kitchen, bathrooms and deck are well designed, look great and function beautifully. We did run into some additional cost due to structural deficiencies that required remediation. However, Dan was able to correct these issues at minimal cost and without major delay in the timeline.

In brief, Dan should be on your short list of contractors to seriously consider.

    First Floor renovation
    $300,000
    365 days

Dan started with major construction on almost all of the first floor of my primary house. He replaced all the molding with a larger and better focused design for the room size. He built custom corner cabinets that everyone thinks came with the house. He resurfaced 2 fireplaces, one in stone and one in marble. He put chair rails with bottom custom wood design throughout the first floor. He did tile floors, cabinet installation and most of the work himself. When he did subcontract work, he found good workers, inspected their work and also shopped for price. He totally renovated my great room. Tile floors, custom made cabinets, custom fireplace design, and a custom made balcony library. From there he totally renovated a second home in the same excellent quality. For the most part, by then I just let him pick what he thought was nice. The design was all him and I loved it. He also did outside work building a run-in shed for my horses and a deck. If you are looking for quality work and precision to detail Dan is your man. I highly recommend him.

    house remodel
    100 days

We hired Dan to do a major reconstruction on our house, including two baths, basement, open kitchen. He has high expectations for quality work and when something was not done right he went back to redo it. He has a strong aesthetic sense and excellent attention to details such that the overall quality/look of the project is outstanding. His prices are fair and he is foremost interested in doing a quality job.

Dan was our general contractor recommended by the architect who designed our kitchen addition. The work was in short, excellent, and involved creating an entire new kitchen, which was an addition of a new wing of the house (complete with foundation, framing , installation of all new cabinets, appliances, electrical wiring, heating system, roofing, windows and skylights, wood flooring) and a new deck. All the subcontractors were of excellent quality, and the results were truly outstanding, without any unfinished things at the time of completion. To this day, when people see my new kitchen, they are completely wowed, and in the 3 years since completion, we've had no issues. Part of Dan's service is that he wants to be called for any problems afterwards, forever. When an undercabinet light stopped working 2 years after the completion of the kitchen, a call to him resulted in rapid resolution by the subcontracting electrician. I plan on using him again soon for a bathroom remodel for my parents. Can't recommend him enough

We had the same issue. Our project was well over $200,000. He got off to a good start, but as time went on, he began to fail us in so many ways. I essentially had to be home every day to inspect the subcontracted work, which is his responsibility not mine. In a brand new space, he used some sub-pare lumber and expected the painters to fix the gouges. We released him after he failed to complete the punch list. Fortunately, we held a small portion of money which he will not see the likes of.

    Garage

    Disappointing experience

We hired Danny in August of 2013, he is a close friend's family member. We were very disappointed in the finished project. Things that were promised were never done and the project was left incomplete. We paid him in full on the last day he was to finish up, and to our surprise the project was not complete. He did come back to see what was left unfinished when we complained; however once again promised to complete certain things and only completed some. Danny then never responded to our outreach to finish up the project properly.

Response from Daniel Masterson January 27, 2017
I am not sure who this is. I am guessing it is a garage I rebuilt for my sister in laws friend. I tried to complete all I assumed I was responsible for again I only have nice things to say about her. I will always go back and fix any concerns within the scope of the job.
