By SsAugust 4, 2016Basement Project$40,00097 days
I contacted Mr. Darin Frye for Basement project in March 2016. He took the advance payment for services and failed to perform. Once he got the deposit and payment, he was either late at the job site or leave very early in the day, worked only 2-3 day a week (3-4 hours a day on average) and have excuses for the delay or absence. He left the project unfinished and is not even responding. Despite repeated reminders, he never hauled away the concrete, stones that he dig out as part of the basement bathroom work and kept it piling in the corner of the basement.

My husband and I hired Mr. Frye July 2015, to do a kitchen addition, install 21 new windows in the home along with all new siding, soffits, and gutter guards. The base contract was a little more than $94,000. At the same time we offered him extra work along with the job such as a new deck, hardwood flooring throughout the entire first floor of the house, the stairs and the upstairs hallway. We also paid over $2000 to have him take the chimney off of our home and install a new fireplace which he did but in doing so he had to cut away part of our deck on the outside and claimed he would fix it when he installed our new deck the Spring of 2016. Mr. Frye was more than willing to write up contracts and take deposits for all of the extra work in August 2015. He completed most of the kitchen addition before our Christmas dinner in December 2015. Extra trim for the kitchen needed to be ordered by me and installed at a later date, unfortunately that extra trim has been sitting in my living room for months. On April 1 of 2016 Mr. Frye sent my husband a text claiming he was out of funds and cannot provide any more material to our home to complete the job. Our home has been covered partially in Tyvek since November 2015. He also cashed our $5000 deposit for the deck back in August and I had to finally pay someone else $500 to have it removed. Along with this he used our back yard, under the deck, and around the perimeter of the new addition as a dumping ground for leftover insulation, siding, rusty nails, rotted wood, Anderson window empty boxes, pieces of Tyvek, instead of renting a dumpster and disposing of it on a daily basis. He claims he might have to file bankruptcy and that his business is not doing well for the past four months, we told him he better make the situation right and make us "whole again". Mr. Frye never made any attempts to reimburse us for our deck deposit or to get us the remaining materials to finish our home. He wanted us to wait as he would get other work from other jobs to earn money to provide material for us. It was one excuse after another no attempt was ever made to come and clean up the trash from our yard or remove the old deck from the house. We opened up a criminal case with the district attorney and also filed a civil lawsuit against Mr. Frye. He walked away from our job earning $101,877. And our home sat unfinished for months. We had to hire another contract and pay $18,750 to have our home re-sided and another $16,000 to have our deck built. He never paid our plumber on the job, he owes our electrician money from another job and also a friend of mine hired him around the time we signed a contract with him. She claimed he couldn't finish her job as well and asked her to re buy her material again. It is a shame because everything in the beginning was going quite well with the kitchen but when the checks stopped going to him he started showing up here and there. He couldn't pay for the entire order of windows to have them delivered to my home and asked me to put them on my credit card, and like a fool I did but deducted the $5400 from his next payment. He wound up owing us money at one point which made things difficult because he wasn't getting the full allotted payments. In my opinion I would not hire this man, he is untrustworthy, does not work a full day, always has an excuse why he has to leave at a certain time, shows up late. Karma is what I'm hoping gets him in the end and we are awarded what is rightfully ours."

We hired Darin Frye to do about $5,000 worth of odd jobs to a rental property we own. Required 2 deposits, which we paid. Work is yet to be finished, keeps making excuses and promises to finish the work. Hasn't shown up to finish and he has our money. DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY!!!!!!!! HE'LL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND WON'T SHOW UP TO FINISH WHAT HE STARTED! ALWAYS HAS SOME EXCUSE! One extremely unhappy customer here, this guy is bad news. He doesn't even deserve 1 star.
