I purchased a house from David in October 2019. I came from out of state and when I open the door and walked into the house the first thing I discovered was a number of flaws in the hardwood floor. David’s response was they could be taken care of “the next time I refinish the floor“. There was also an issue with the shower, it made a horrible squeaking noise when you got in. He did repair that. But he didn’t provide mirrors or towel bars for the bathrooms. In a text he agreed to pay for them and having his installers put them in. But when it came down to it I ended up paying for the majority of the products. He paid a little over $200 and I paid over $500. Then on a closer inspection of the paint on the walls, there was considerable overspray from where the painter had sealed the trim. It literally frames all of the doorways and makes the paint look like there are two different types/textures. We have the painter come back out repaired several of the walls, but there are still more that need to be taken care of and that’s been left for me to resolve. When I went to have the Wi-Fi installed, the installer spent 45 minutes looking for the wires. It turned out they were loosely hanging within the insulation of the roof. Outside of the house, those wires were hanging loosely on the side of the building. Mr. Likem’s response when I contacted him about this issue was “ Send him a picture of the box so that he would know what to purchase for me.” Mr. Likem’s response when I mentioned the problem was that I should find Thankfully the Wi-Fi tech took care of it and I did not have to deal with this issue. Another issue was the dryer and the kitchen fan were not working. The painters had painted over the outside vents and they weren’t opening. Mr. Likem did send out an HVAC guy to check everything. But it bothers me that just the simplest routine checks were not done. I can’t help but wonder what else wasn’t carefully inspected after the build. Then I decided to have some of the light fixtures changed out. The electrician I hired pointed out that some of the boxes were installed improperly. The next issue was property drainage. I contacted the city when I found out that drainage was going to be an issue. They said that he had “barely, legally passed the standard”. There’s only 1 foot of space between me and the house next-door. They came in and built their home after mine and raised the elevation so that they could have a basement. This eliminated the drainage system that Mr. Likem had designed. To have the drainage system properly installed is going to cost me $850. I’ve lived in this house for four months and these are the issues I’ve dealt with. I can’t help but wonder what will be next.
