Owner
Horrible experience that included deception, unethical behavior, and lies. Mr. DeStafano, owner of DCR Builders, began non-agreed upon work without (1) a signed contract, (2) my permission, and (3) a Village permit. He tore up a floor that I told him I didn’t want torn up and then expected me to pay for the labor to tear up and lay the new floor as well as the new floor material. He attempted to submit a drawing to the Village that included work not requested and / or rejected, which also juiced up the bid cost. One reason he stated for not needing to show me the plan was “There’s nothing to see on the architectural drawing. It’s just a bunch of lines and circles.” Did I mention condescending? In a meeting setup specifically to review Mr. DeStafano’s bid, he refused to answer any questions about what went in the costs including, but not limited to, the hourly rate he was charging. He lied about needing to add drywall against the inside of the exterior wall before adding new pipes. He lied about the required plumbing changes. There was a $3,000 math error on his bid. Overall, a horrible experiences. His deceptive and unethical behaviors are masked by an easy demeanor, however, it didn’t take long for the real person to come through.
