ALERT: DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. It is 2018. In New Jersey. And my encounter with Dennis was the most sexist, homophobic experience I have ever had in my entire life.
Dennis is the most incompetent, condescending, unprofessional service person I have ever dealt with. He installed a unit for us in the spring, and had to come back several times to tweak it. It was a brand new system, that HE picked out, yet made US feel that we were the inconvenience every single time. He even bought the wrong size air filters, but instead of getting the right ones, he just left them here and never put a filter in at all (a fact he failed to mention). He took screens out of our windows to run wiring, and never put them back in. I was happy when it was over, but now temperatures have dropped, new problems arose.
My landlord called Dennis, because he installed the unit and should be held accountable if something is wrong with it. So, against our better judgement, we let Dennis try to fix the issue. Luckily all we needed was a different thermostat (which SHOULD have been something Dennis checked back when he installed the unit, but that is just another indicator of his laziness and inability to do a job properly.) My fiancee and I had already told him that what he wanted us to do with the thermostat, was not able to be done. Yet, Dennis still came by at 10am, without a replacement thermostat, walked across our rug in his dirty work boots, looked at the thermostat, looked up an instructional YouTube video, and confirmed what we had been saying all along: this thermostat doesn’t do what we need.
He said that he would be back later in the day with a new thermostat. I had errands to run, but knew this needed to be prioritized since the temperatures are going to be brutal in the coming nights, so waited to hear from Dennis. When I realized it was 5pm and still hadn’t heard from him, I reached out by text to ask if he was coming back. To which he replied “tomorrow around 1 if that’s okay. I thought you were trying to get some rest. I didn’t want to bother you.” I never said anything to Dennis about needing to rest, so how or why he thought it was acceptable to make the decision to not come back, and NOT TELL ANYONE, is something that still eludes me. After informing him that tomorrow isn’t good for us, he then called and said he’ll be over now then. Funny how he was available.
From the second I opened the door, he had an attitude of utter disgust that I had the audacity to ask him to do his job. I then asked him to explain how this emergency heat situation works, since I have never dealt with it until this unit. He gave me some toaster analogy that I’m sure his professor gave him day one of trade school and that’s about all he held onto. When I pressed and continued to ask more questions, as one would think you should be able to do with a professional, he rolled his eyes, huffed, and stated he “wasn’t going to give me a course on how it works.” I said I didn’t need a course, but SOME explanation would be helpful! I understand now why he didn’t want to answer- because he didn’t know. The glaring gaps in his knowledge were being exposed and he didn’t like being confronted about it.
Especially by a female.
In a relationship with another female.
A fact I only include because HE made it crystal clear he takes issue with it, as he turned his back in my face, walked out mid question, saying (and these quotes are verbatim) that I am “just me a f**king man hater.”He should not be in this field of work.
I urge you, please, for you and your family’s safety- look elsewhere. Remember that these people have your address even after the job is done... That is an extremely unsettling thought for me right now, in my own home. Bitter, angry people like Dennis can become very dangerous.
