I have had Dependable out before (about 2.5 years ago) and they fixed my heating problem in a quick and timely fashion. When my air conditioner broke this year, I called them up on a Friday and asked for someone to come out; we set an appointment for the following Friday. I called on that Friday morning to verify the appointment and they did not have me on the list. Someone eventually did come out after I complained. The technician that came didn't even turn his vehicle off in the driveway! He came in and I told him that I needed him to check a specific part of the system. He said "no." This was very frustrating to me because I don't know a whole lot about A/C, but I know enough to guess at what was wrong. I advised the tech of the things that I had already checked on and I told him I needed him to check something that I was unsure of. He did not. He was not even here for 15 minutes before he told me that I just needed to get brand new units (upstairs and downstairs). He said that the compressor in the downstairs unit was coming apart and that fragments of that were XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXed up into the upstairs unit where it was blocking the Freon and not allowing it to circulate properly. This scenario is not possible. If the compressor were really and truly coming apart internally, then the unit itself would not be able to turn on. This is an impossible scenario! I have gotten second and third opinions and the conclusion is that we need to clean the blower fan for the air return. It is very dirty and needs cleaning, not to mention it is THOUSANDS of dollars cheaper to rectify than purchasing and installing brand new units. I am HIGHLY upset that I paid $65 dollars for absolutely nothing.
When I hire someone, I consider them to be in my service for the amount of time that I have hired them for, which includes checking out a legitimate request. Most heating and air companies charge an hourly service charge anywhere from $60-$70. Since I paid $65, I full well expected the tech to be here at least an hour and do a good diagnostic on my system since I couldn't figure it out. I paid the hourly service charge, so where's my diagnostic? I now have to pay someone else to come out and fix the real issue. Dependable was not very dependable and I seriously doubt I will be calling them again in the future. Because of them, I was unable to have my unit fixed yesterday, it is now 85 degrees in my house, I am out $65, and my one-year-old son is absolutely miserable. Thanks, Not-So-Dependable.
