I have written 1 star reviews on several platforms because his bad work has cost me thousands of dollars—on top of the thousands he charged—to be redone/repaired. I started working with Calin because he was hired by our building to do plumbing in a special assessment. With the walls being opened and trim being taken down, more work was created. Calin is an interesting contractor, he has a two tier systems for his standard of work. His chosen clients receive high quality work—hence good reviews—and the second tier ( I suspect but won’t say what he base his work standards on) receive a much poorer standard:
—spliced together ceiling molding…needing replacement after 1 year because it separated
—going through my personal things (stealing) because the workers didn’t want to get paint. They then painted my wall which was a different color so there was an obvious delineated line between colors…Calin told it me it was the light…that was redone by another painter.
—tried convince me that it was city code, when he finished renovations in my bathroom, that lukewarm water in the shower was acceptable. He also argued that he liked lukewarm water. After much back and forth, he corrected it. So in actuality, it wasn’t city code just his mistake that he didn’t want to fix.
—Calin didn’t want to caulk the new tile in the bathtub that he replaced. Again, after much back and forth ( he said bathtubs don’t need it) he did it. One year later, the gaps between the tile and bathtub that was caulked are so large that it needs to be replaced… it is really unsightly. I see now that there is a separation, that some of the tiles were cut unevenly. The thing is, I’m sure Calin noticed this because he did the caulking himself.
—he did a nice job installing the washer and dryer hookups, however, ABT would not install the washer and dryer because they said it was not up to code. Calin’s workers did it but it later had to be ‘leveled’ by
another contractor.
—his workers did not prepare the walls in the bedroom they painted so there are small cracks in the wall that need to be covered and repainted. The work was done about a year ago. This is the same room with spliced together ceiling molding that has separated and needs to be redone/replaced.
Finally, he promised to show up and fix a leak..never did and at that point I stopped dealing with him. I know, I hung in there too long. In my defense, he had done very nice work for others in our complex, which is why I started this review stating he was an interesting contractor, he chooses who he’s going to give a
100% to. I paid him in cash, at his insistence, and on time. I learned a lot of lessons. I hope if you chose him you’ll use discernment when believing you’ll get what you’ve been promised.
