I am extremely disappointed with the hardwood installation services provided by Di Alva Custom Flooring LLC (owners: Bryan Alva Galindo, Yasmin Fernadez) and would not recommend them to anyone.
First, the following was not installed perpendicular to the joists for proper support, resulting in unstable flooring that is also already squeaking and sinking with the slightest pressure in multiple places.
The quality of work was shockingly poor. In a matter of days, nosing at the top of the stairs has already started to separate from the rest of the flooring, posing a serious safety hazard. The flooring itself is uneven, the quarter rounds are poorly jointed, cracked, or missing entirely, and there are burned sections of wood from improper staining. The finish was either poorly applied or not applied at all, leading to bumps, chips, and uneven coloring throughout.
Additionally, there was significant damage to our stairs due to the lack of proper protection during the installation process. We found multiple gouges and scratches on our steps, which were not part of the project but were carelessly damaged by Bryan and his partner because they did not cover the stairs with any protective layer and also dropped items down the stairs multiple times.
Bryan also failed to deliver on promised services. We were sold on premium "Select" quality wood but received Common 1 instead. He also said he would add in plywood subflooring, but installed particle board subflooring instead.
The most frustrating part of this experience has been the lack of accountability when we tried to raise our concerns. Before the hardwoods were installed, we’d notice the unevenness between the existing subflooring that was already in the house and the boards that he had installed. Although we raised our concerns that the unevenness in the subflooring would result in uneven hardwoods via email, Bryan ignored those concerns and proceeded with the installation. His excuse was that we were busy in meetings and he didn’t want to interrupt us. Then he told us that it was too late to fix the problem because they had already installed the hardwood. We also pointed out multiple issues with the end result (e.g.: cracked and misaligned quarter rounds, horrible transition that was a tripping hazard, etc.) but he told us it was not his problem to fix.
Despite numerous attempts to resolve these issues, Bryan has been unresponsive and dismissive of our concerns. We have now been forced to hire new contractors to tear up and redo the work, incurring significant additional costs. Several other contractors actually encouraged us to pursue legal damages when they saw the state of his work.
I strongly advise against using Bryan Alva Galindo (often going by Bryan Alva ), Di Alva Custom Flooring LLC, or any new company he might create for any hardwood installation services. The combination of poor workmanship, lack of accountability, and hazardous outcomes is unacceptable. Save yourself the headache and find a reputable contractor who stands behind their work.
