Stay as far away as you can. I had an issue with a gas control valve on a gas hot water heater. The tech came out, took 2 pictures, and left. I got a message from AHS that Discount Contractors told them that they could replace the control valve but needed to perform modifications to the gas line which was outside what AHS would cover. Discount Contractors wanted an additional $250 from me in order to move forward with the repair. I tried numerous times to contact Discount Contractors for an explanation of what needed to be modified and to get a breakdown of the costs (material, labor, etc). When I finally reached someone, I was told they WOULD NOT provide any information concerning the modification or what I was getting for $250. Also, Chesterfield County, VA requires permits for any gas line modification, and Discount Contractors was not applying for a permit. I contacted AHS to see if they could get any information but they hit the same wall of no information. I eventually took the cash-out offer from AHS, which was less than 50% of the costs I incurred to get the valve replaced. I decided to pay more to get the job done right than to deal with these crooks.

I would rate them a ZERO.

    Fix leaking Pipe
    $125

This company is comprised of crooks who know nothing about plumbing. They are only interested in the service fees that they collect from American Home Shield to come out to your property and give fake diagnosis to collect an easy $125. Beware of letting these people into your home.

    Kitchen faucet

I guess everybody NOW is aware of this discount contractor how they dishonest and how they take advantage of the consumers . I’m surprised that they still in business and how AHS still send them business I guess they the only company they deal with unfortunate AHS believe what their determination because they the one who goes out to the homes not AHS ,and it seems like Their mission is to deny the claim so they can force you to pay them for the cost of the repair that is outrageous and more than anyone else would charge .they figure they put you on the spot and sometimes women unfortunately have no choice but to let them go ahead and repair it . that’s the problem when you have the owner and wife run business and they know how to get over and make you feel like you don’t know nothing and they know the system how to rip people off .I have never read so many people complain for the same issues about denying the claim by saying preexisted or not wear and tear and when you try to call the company Shannon David very rude and arrogant .I was wondering how people like them sleep at night getting over poor people hard-working people that they try to survive. When the technician came to look at my kitchen faucet I have showed him a broken plastic bracket that holds the faucet in place .The technician took pictures and send to his manager Then he came back in the house and tells me that bracket was not From wear tear when I called the office twice I got to a different woman lied and tells me that AHS company have denied the claim. When I asked Shannon Davis why the company denied my claim she indicate to me because it was intentionally I broke it.But he would replace a new faucet for $450 and also he seems like did not want it to get underneath the kitchen cabinet to replace it because he made the remark AHS does not pay enough for him to get underneath there to remove the old hoses and replace a new one. So thanks a lot discount contractors for accusing me breaking my own shit .And what right does give you to determine the plastic bracket was not wear tear ?? (I would’nt give you 1 Star)you’ll just hungry money

    Fix a leading pipe
    $550

Don’t use Discount Contractors for your plumbing. We had a small leak in our kitchen ceiling. We used our warranty (American home shield) company to file a service request as they covered plumbing. When they came out, we were automatically told that we needed to install a pressure regulator because our PSI was 90 and it should be at 80. They stated that’s what caused the leak. My question was how do you know that? We’ve lived in our house for 20yrs with no leaks and this is a very tiny leak. If our pressure was too high, we would have had more leaks before 20 years. Was told we would have to pay $550 to put in a $50 part and takes 15 mins. Wait! What! And didn’t you just tell me you just upsold the lady before me as well. When asked how can you tell this one, small, leak was caused by too much pressure. No definitive answer. I understand the upsale. It’s a pocket stuffer and it works, especially with plumbing when the homeowner is pretty clueless. We reached out to two other plumbers and sent them pics of the leak. Just from that and what we’ve told them, they have already contradicted what Discount Contractors said. They are wondering why they think it’s the pressure regulator with no past leaks in 20 years and such a small leak. They stated if it was the pressure regulator, we would have had more leak by now. We told them they will not replace the leaking pipe if we put in the regulator ourselves. They said that’s ridiculous. I felt like, from the very beginning, it was just, strictly a way to line their pockets. The reason I say that is because they could have fixed the leak and recommend we get the regulator. That was not even an option with them. I would highly recommend you know use them unless you’re prepared to dish out money for something you probably don’t even need. The fully part is, they say our pressure is not up to code, but the county comes out every 2 months and have never said a work about our PSI being too high in the past 20 years!! Rip-Offs

repair kitchen sink water drain stoppage
    $447

I have AHS warranty and they send Discount Contractors out for plumbing issues. Discount Contractors is SO UNPROFESSIONAL i don't know why AHS uses them as a contractor. DC does not have a web page, and they do not answer the telephone. I have had them out to my house 4 times in the last 6 weeks for the same issue of stoppage with kitchen sink, and the problem is still not resolved. The time before last they said something with the pipes under the house was not up to code and AHS denied the service request. We paid out of pocket $450 to DC to repair and two weeks later they have to be called back and they start talking about something being not to code. I have requested AHS send a different plumber or I will shop for a different home warranty company.

This review is like a carbon copy of so many others I have read. Discount Contractors was sent to my home by AHS warranty company for a leaking toilet and then they tried to convince me to spend thousands of dollars to fix a floor problem that did not exist. I had another plumber fix the leak and have now filed a complaint with the BBB for how both companies handled this issue.

    hot water heater repair
    $20

Like many others I have an AHS home warranty on a new home I purchased in the Richmond VA area. AHS assigned Discount Contractors LLC to handle a hot water heater that wasn't heating. Note: I already realized it needed one of two parts being very handy myself, but with limited time. when Anthony arrived he kept trying to tell me my vent for my washer wasn't to code, my unit was dirty and needed an added $150 cleaning, and that I needed to get him to update my flue which wasn't to code (and not covered by home warranty). I asked him to simply fix the hot water heater and give me quotes for everything else... he said parts needed to be ordered and refused to call the local plumbing supply stores which stocks these parts and that he would be back in next week. Well, its been two weeks now, no word from him on the "part" or quotes. Needless to say I went to one of the many box stores and bought the $20 thermostat and replaced and cleaned it in 40mins myself. I will be following up with a BBB review and also a formal complaint with AHS and my credit card company. his tactics are predatory for those who don't know APS standards, requirements, etc.

    plumving repairs

So many negative terms come to mind....arrogant, misleading, opportunistic, dishonest, and the list continues. AHS assigned this company to our home twice, and both times, their verdict was "foreign object", which is an automatic denial of AHS services. The first time was an upflush toilet which had a malfunctioning pump......attributed to " baby wipes" being flushed, even though no baby or baby mothers had been in the home. No evidence given, just their report. The second time was strange....a malfunctioning garbage disposal. The tech came out, "found" a screw in it and redid the blade operation underneath, marked it as "no charge"---the unit was running fine. The next day, once the unit was turned on to actually grind something other than water, it clogged and made all fluids/remnants flow backwards to the dishwasher. A follow-up message was made to AHS, and Discount Contractors came out again....2 days later. By then, there was a dishwasher filled with rancid water/waste and a smell permeating the house. The same "tech" worked on the bottom of the disposal, immediately said he had "bad news" and that AHS wouldn't cover this because it was a "foreign object"?? it was food! He gave me a litany of what foods can't be put down a disposal, even saying little bits will clog it(???) I've had disposals since their invention and know what NOT to put down them, but "all foods"? He never went to the computer to contact AHS, but realizing the smell was unbearable and he had a "captive customer" said he would put a new disposal.....the final bill later was $425! I asked the price of the disposal and then he said the rest was plumbing. When I checked the bottom line disposal installed, it was average $90, not the $140 quoted, and even Lowes advertises they will install a disposal for $150, whether bought at the store or not. This guy totally ripped me off and NEVER contacted AHS, He then turned in the "screw" issue on that date but coded it in differently on the computer.....AHS called the next week telling me that they would not repair my GARAGE door opener due to a screw in the mechanism! When I called them to tell them I had no garage door opener, they told me that he was paid the service charge for that...………….I recently had a dishwasher issue at another home in the area, and when AHS assigned DISCOUNT CONTRACTORS as the repair company, immediately called and had this company removed from any repairs at my locations. AHS welcomes your input....do it to help out others. This company has a terrible rating, and it is obvious why!!! DO NOT USE THEM.

    Repair sewage ejector pump
    $1,500

Do NOT let AHS send these people to your home. You will regret it and spend way more than the service call fee.

Terrible scam artists. Were assigned to work on a broken sewage ejector pump through AHS and came to my home while my wife was home and I was at work. She calls me a few hours later IN TEARS because they've told her that the pump is broken due to an issue not covered by the warranty and it would be THOUSANDS of dollars to replace. The "office manager", Shannon, calls me to explain the situation and tells me that I am fortunate as they have found the proper pump in town for only $1500. At the time, money was extremely tight, so I begged for a payment plan and was given the option of paying $750 in 2 payments.

While they are finding this rare pump and setting up at my home, I then reach out to my father, who has a lot of home handyman experience. He tells me that sewage ejector pumps are available at Home Depot and the size we need are only $300. He then comes to my house and tells them that we've decided to complete the repair ourselves and asks for the model of the pump they were planning to install. They then proceed to walk away while HIDING THE PUMP FROM HIM and rush into their truck and leave.

These people are dishonest scammers that prey on the vulnerable and have no shame. This event happened a few years ago but I have a new plumbing issue and was assigned them. I called AHS and told them I refuse to let them come anywhere near my house and thankfully they obliged my request.

Anywhere you look online, you will see others have suffered when using them. BBB gives them an 'F' rating but more importantly, there are dozens of similar personal stories of their terrible service. PLEASE do not use them.

    Unclog Laundry Drain
    $2,800

Do not accept AHS sending these guys out to your home unless it is an extremely minor plumbing problem.I am talking DIY, all you need is 1 Youtube tutorial kind of minor. If Discount Contractors even gets the faintest idea that they can lie & scam their way into a thousand+ dollar project they will jump on the opportunity. They receive payment from AHS for every denied claim because obviously that saves AHS from actually having to pay for a repair. So they consistently and willfully write reports that are inaccurate or grossly embellished to make sure the claim is denied, and you have to pay them out of pocket. Two pay days for them instead of 1 if they make sure the claim is denied. Were dispatched to fix a clog in my laundry room plumbing, but instead of even looking for the clog or attempting to fix it they immediately stated plumbing wasn't to code so they wouldn't touch it. If technician was knowledgeable, he would factored in the age of my home, and that the plumbing system was up to code at the time of construction. Anybody who owned a home that wasn't brand new would go bankrupt bringing every piece of their house up to the current year code !! Not only did "technician" (use that term very lightly) not even attempt to clear the log, quoted me $2800 to redo laundry plumbing and stated that I would also need to redo kitchen plumbing as it was not to code either (did not give price quote, but I assume more than $2800 as kitchen plumbing supports more systems) . Keep in mind this home was purchased less than two years ago and passed two home inspections ! Called a different plumber (not associated with AHS) who cleared the clog for $75 (cast iron pipping is beginning to corrode, causing iron debris to accumulate and restrict water flow) and quoted me $2000 to bring laundry room AND kitchen plumbing up to code. Oh and don't even bother telling their office manager Shannon that you experienced any sort of issue with the technician, she will immediately forget that she is an employee or what customer service means.

    Plumbing Repair

Discount Contractors has been dispatched to our home 4 times since January by our home warranty company. Because I now understand how home warranty companies operate and their shady business model with their service providers, I won’t say too much about the actual work provided. I’ll just say they were here 4 times and they will not be returning to my home ever again - even though my plumbing issue was still not resolved.

What I will say, is that on this last visit, which occurred today, Anthony came out. His initial demeanor was pretty abrupt and he wasn’t too interested in hearing what my issue was or the history that lead up to yet another service call. His remedy to my problem was to do the minimum amount of work necessary which of course did not FIX our problem. He and I got into quite the heated discussion when I questioned if this was the most he could offer - he had a condescending attitude the entire time and walked out of my house in a huff.

Come to find out, after some research online, Anthony is one of the owners! Wow, not a great way to run a business. Poorest customer service I have ever encountered.

By the way, as a heads up, the person Anthony refers to as his “boss” is really his wife Shannon who is also the “office manager”. Pretty sad when you are dealing with the owners of a company and they don’t even disclose that simple fact. Speaks volumes about their lack of professionalism. What happened to standing behind a service you offer?

    fix leak in bathroom

The technician (term used lightly) was rude, unskilled and incompetent. He recommended a repair that I didn't need and it would not have resolved the issue. The individual conflicted his assessment TWICE before he left my residence. Answered questions with "I don't know" one time and 5 minutes later, he knew everything. The only reason I gave them one star is because it is required in order for the review to be visible. Based on other reviews of this company - Buyer/ Caller BEWARE!

AHS Warranty dispatched to replaced leaking hot water heater
    $626

They were timely, knowledgeable and professional. Rating due to to fact that I had to pay $626 in addition to my AHS warranty fee to have my hot water heater replaced. I have had many other items replaced/repaired over the years and have NEVER had to pay in additional fees except for freon in the AC unit. They said the gas and water pipes had to be replaced/modified to bring up to code ($470), permit ($100) and unit disposal ($56 ... I took to the dump myself for $3). Based other reviews, this seems to be a pattern. I would be interested in what the county and the BBB would have to say about these "required" code modifications and again why they are not covered under the AHS Warranty.

"[Professionalism] The technician was very professional. He called to let me know he was 4 minutes away from my home.He was friendly and courteous. He explained why my toilet cracked and made helpful suggestions. He also went above his duties by taking a picture of the crack for me with my phone. I have very low vision so this was truly a blessing for me. Discount Contractors LLC were great. STAY AWAY. Turns out i need a diverter, BUT this company said that my valve was bent and twisted, and that I needed a new valve installed for approx $675.00.... I found a diverter kit for 60 bucks. They didnt take the time to properly diagnose, they didnt want to look at any before pictures, they didnt care that water was leaking through the ceiling. And all they kept saying was its not normal wear and tear and that it is more than just a diverter. Diverter fixed the leak...

I have an AHS warranty, and submitted a claim for my garbage disposal. I had seen the other reviews on here and got very nervous. I may have lucked out, but Rene Sanchez was extremely professional, kind, and personable. He quickly diagnosed the problem, fixed the issue satisfactorily, and even fixed a few issues with the prior garbage disposal install (e.g. securing/positioning of the water...tubing?) at no additional cost.

    replace water heater
    12 days

Our water heater was leaking in our basement. Contacted AHS who sent our service request to Discount Contractors. Within in an hour I received a call from Shannon to set up the technician to evaluate the problem. On said day he gave me a heads up call he was on his way to my house to meet my husband. His recommendation was a new water heater which was approved by AHS. When it was time to install the new one, again Shannon called to setup the appt. for installation. My husband told me that the installer was very professional and took great care to make sure all of the water had drained out before moving it through our house and taking it away. The only down side was AHS taking longer than a day or two to approve the new heater so we had a leaky appliance for over a week. Both Shannon and the installer, Jacob were friendly and professional.

RUDE RUDE RUDE!! Shannon Davis and her company are horrible! Run as fast as you can if AHS tell you they are sending a "plumber" out to fix your problem. They are dishonest and do things half-assed. They made an improper repair in May of this year and as a result, their repair failed. They have also told AHS that the new repair should be $2500 to fix and we got a second opinion from Total Plumbing for $650 - $1000 depending on the pipe they use. Dishonest all the way around if you are using AHS or not. RUN!

This company will find anything they can and lie to get your claim denied by AHS. I had a leaking water heater which they were called out for by AHS. They reported that my water heater was insufficient and needed to be upgraded. They told me this was AHS's requirement and that it wouldn't be covered by my warranty if I didn't upgrade it. When I spoke with AHS, they said they had no such requirement and that it was Discount contractors that told them it needed to be upgraded. I requested a second opinion which proved Discount contractors diagnosis incorrect. After AHS told them to go through with the replacement, Discount Contractors all of a sudden "discovered" issues with my piping (they hadn't been out to my house in over 3 weeks). Now they want almost $2000 to "fix" the piping. I'm fighting with AHS right now about this company and their shady and dishonest practices. They don't even deserve the 1 star I'm required to give them in order to submit this review.

  • July 25, 2016

I had Discount Contractors sent out to my home through my AHS home warranty contract for a leaking water heater that just started a few days ago. There was water all over the floor in my utility closet. The contractor agreed that the water heater would need to be replaced. He took my service fee and then wrote a report that water leak was a pre-existing condition so they denied my claim at AHS which was completely false and untrue. I now have to go through to get another company sent out to get a second opinion. Unclear who these guys think they are but they are crooks and apparently don't know what they are doing.

    plumbing blockage
    $75

I'm another AHS home warranty case. I never would have used this company but that's who they sent out. I had a major plumbing issue with sewer water 4 inches deep in my bathroom. They came out and told me that the block was in my main line that runs from the road and quotes me $875 to fix it. (Not covered by AHS). I asked him no less than 4 times to please try to snake it out but he assured me over and over that he couldn't do it. (Also told me his snake could only reach 6 feet). I paid my obligatory $75 service call fee (for absolutely no actual service rendered) and called a real plumber. He came right over and snaked it out and it was fixed. My suggestion even if you have a AHS, is to not ever use their crappy service and just call Jason at Tate's Plumbing Repair. 804.218.2822. He was fast, professional, and very fair priced.

    leak
    $550
    1 day

Back in Jan. 2016, I contacted American Home Shield because we had water pouring down in my son's closet from our upstairs bathroom. The representative was pleasant and advised - they would send someone out ASAP! Three days later a plumber from Discount Contractors came to our home, he cut a huge hole in the ceiling, climbed up into the ceiling and said "You have a pipe missing from your tub" (how is that even possible, been in my home for 10 years?). The plumber called AHS and they denied our claim but wanted their $125 deductible. The plumber then goes to his car to call Discount Contractors and get some tools and then tells us in order to repair the leak it would cost $550+. We call AHS back and they said there is nothing they can do for us. So we paid the man, then he says he can't fix the big hole in our ceiling, AHS will do that! Then 2-3 weeks later after calling 3 times, AHS sends a guy to patch and I do mean patch the ceiling. Now on April 9, 2016, our son comes yelling that his closet is raining water again. Upon inspection we notice the water is coming from the same spot that was supposed to be fixed by Discount Contractors. Now the fun begins- I called AHS and was told there was nothing they could do, we have to deal with Discount Contractors. Shannon Davis (owner) was curt and useless, she said Discount Contractors has nothing to do with it, we had to deal with AHS! After calling several times I finally spoke with Carmen a rep from AHS, who apologized for the way we've been treated and is sending a new contractor to our home ASAP at NO CHARGE (received an email confirmation with $0 cost)! Great- Tuesday morning a gentleman from Plumbright Plumbing INC comes to our home, cuts another hole in our ceiling and informs us that the problem was never fixed (you think) after fixing the problem, he calls AHS who tells him that our claim is denied and we must pay Plumbright's fee of $125.00! After calling and speaking with 7 AHS reps and leaving a voice message for a supervisor (who never called back) each rep stated that I was never told there would be no cost (but I have the email) and I need to refer to my contract agreement. We are now out of over $600.00 and have another big ass hole in the ceiling! Dealing with both American Home Shield and Discount Contractors has been a nightmare and I will NEVER use either company again and strongly advise others to beware! RIP Offs

    Repair leaky toilet at base

    Shady Dealings

Do not use this contractor for anything. They were dispatched by the AHS homeowners warranty company. Please hear what the others have said in this post. I have a similar story, except that I not only did not receive a repair for a leaky toilet, which was a simple installation of a toilet wax seal--what I endured was a graphically detailed story of the service technician's weekend hook up with a woman and more details regarding his prowess as a lover as he flushed the toilet to see it leak. When his story was finished, his professional diagnosis of the leaking toilet was for me to to use a referred handyman to replace the bathroom floor and "install the toilet"...for $950.00. The contractor service was administered through the homeowners warranty company service call, which I paid $75.00 dollars to have the problem not fixed. The warranty company denied service based on his report of improper installation of the toilet. The tactics of this contractor's employee was both deceitful and aimed at duping me into getting work done that was not necessary. I had to hire a reputable company to come and repair the toilet, without a total floor replacement.

    Kitchen plumbing repair

This company was the company I was required to use through my home warranty. I had to call to schedule the appointment and the representative had the nerve to tell me she had left a message on my voicemail - I had no such voicemail. That right there was a red flag. The appointment was going to be scheduled two days out - and when you can't run the water in your kitchen sink that makes it a little inconvenient for the family. I will be sharing this information with the warranty company and hopefully they make changes.

    fix broken pipe

    Discount Contractors LLC

Unfortunately I have a home owner warranty which required the use of this company. I had a ruptured pipe which required the water be turned off. Unfortunately the pipe was between the kitchen cabinet and the outside wall. My kitchen had just been redone in the past 4 years so I knew where the water lines were. Tony came out to fix the pipe and after me telling him where the pipe joints were he told me that I didn't know where the pipes were and he needed to cut into the wall...well guess who was right and now I have a large hole in the wall. I had to have a contractor come and take the outside wall apart. After requesting that the company NOT send Tony out the second time ...as you can guess he came out. The pipe that had ruptured was an older piece that had not been replaced( the home had recalled plumbing which all but that piece seemed to be replaced). Tony refused to replace it...telling me he had done the job required by the warranty. He spoke to me like I was an idiot...telling me "I am a MASTER PLUMBER" you don't know what you are talking about. He was extremely rude to his helper...enough so that when he walked away I asked the man why he put up with being treated like that he just shook his head. While I was waiting for insurance to come, I had the old pipe replaced by another plumber. When the plumber looked at the pipe with me we noted that water was leaking from around the fix that Tony had done...good thing I hadn't had the wall closed up right away. I will not let this company touch my home again.

Never contacted through my home warranty to set up appointment. When I contacted them, gave me an appointment one week from telephone call. Had a leaky faucets so appointment time was unacceptable. Customer service is not good at all!

    DISCOUNT CONTRACTORS LLC...Very Disgusted Customer

Shannon Davis was very unprofessional on the phone. She hung up on me and tried to say the call dropped. We both were on landlines though so that's not possible. She was sarcastic and defensive when we complained about the technician that came to our house. Not only did he walk around barefoot in my home, but the job was not successfully completed. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone.
