David is a terrible contractor. First, he charges 20% or more for any supplies that he purchases to do the work. The carpenter that he hired to come in gave him approximately an $1800 bill that included labor and materials. He charged me an extra 20% on the $1800 calling it materials; in addition to $1300 in materials from him. Note we bought our own tile and kerdy board. So with $1300+$1800 x 20% was almost $700 extra. Then he charges an extra 10% on he and his workers hours calling it “the overhead” to cover his licensing and sending the carpenter a 1099 form. If you are already charging me your hourly rate, why charge an extra 10%? I spoke with his workers, they claim on paper they are paid $20 an hour but only take home $10-12 depending on the skill set of the individual.
I have 2 small bathrooms he charged $8800 for stand up showers with tile.I live in a patio home so you can imagine how small these bathrooms are. He started late September (25th ish) it’s now December 2nd and they are still incomplete. For the time it has taken him to complete the job, HE IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY!
He is a very scattered brain individual meaning he never completes one project before going to the next. In the master bathroom, he messed up the floor of the shower, so now I have a huge puddle after every shower use and the water has to be raked to the drain by my foot. David wanted to charge me to fix it after stating that “he knows what happened and he scrapped an area of the floor and forgot to level it”. But now I have to buy the materials again and be changed. I don’t understand his logic!
Then he brings an incompetent young man over to help him and this young man can’t cut a straight line of his life depended on it. Well David let’s him cut $1500 worth of tile with jaded edges and used a wrong tile piece in the shower box. I had to make David take down the badly cut tiles. He claimed he didn’t see the edges, yet he was the one placing the tiles. There were ab 10 pieces of tile he had to take down and recut.
Well like an idiot trying to be kind to this man because he seems to be in need for money and troubled, I paid him in full and now he is telling me that he has a new job and he is no longer going contractor work and he doesn’t know when he can finish fixing the master bathroom.
I can go on and on about this terrible contractor, but the point is DO NOT USE HIM!! You will regret your decision. He talks a good game that he works for people on the hill, frog hollow, California dreaming, and more. But not I see why he has gone from self employed to an employee!
