This review is for Dockery Plumbing Services, Bryson City, NC area. What is described below is accurate and careful considerations were given prior to writing and posting the review.
I did a new home construction in Bryson City for a friend 2018/2019. New house constructions are large, complicated projects and at the time of construction the industry was enjoying a surplus of work. I have taken into account both of these points.
Although there were many delays with Mr. Dockery’s company as I have stated above I understood this to be a matter of how busy the industry was as opposed to bad service. What I will describe in the following are simply examples of bad service and craftsmanship.
On Thanksgiving weekend 2019 I decided to “police up” the new house crawl space. Almost immediately I found an open and unfinished 1” PVC pipe protruding through the floor into the crawl space. I suspected that it was the drain from the hot water heater and water pressure tank emergency catch pans two stories up in the attic. Simple test of pouring water into the drain opening in the attic confirmed this.
On Monday following Thanksgiving weekend I texted Mr. Dockery and pointed out that he and his crew missed completing this drain. His text back to me stated that my builder, Mike Hoke, instructed him to leave the drain unfinished because the decorative rock was already on the foundation wall and he didn’t want to deal with removing and then replacing rock. I suspected that such an unfinished drain was not permitted by the building code. If at any point in time there had been a hot water heater or water pressure tank failure and a leak had gone undetected for hours, days, weeks, etc. water would have drained into the crawl space unchecked rather than draining out of the structure. Potential for much damage. Independent of the building code this was not their choice to make, rather it was mine.
Mr. Dockery stated that he would return to my site to complete the drain. My last text from him was on 13th, December stating that he had been out sick for a few days and expected to complete the drain at the beginning of the following week. It is now the beginning of March, I’ve never heard back from him. Doesn’t matter as far as the new house is concerned. I have a lot of construction experience in my background and did the job myself on New Years Eve day and New Years Day.
Two other smaller issues that were not done properly. The rod portion of the mechanism that operates the sink drain stopper in the master bath had to be cut due to a dimensional restriction involving the drain pipe in the cabinet. The rod was cut so short that simply operating the stopper one time caused it to disconnect. I contacted Moen and they were kind enough to send me a new rod without charge which I cut to appropriate length and installed. The application now both clears the drain pipe and does not disconnect. Also the kitchen faucet had a slow but continuous drip. Again I contacted Moen and they sent a new cartridge without charge. We gave it to Mr. Dockery and he said he installed it, the faucet still leaked. Once again I contacted Moen and they felt that the problem was still the cartridge because the water supply lines and cartridge housing had not been properly flushed and cleaned when Mr. Dockery installed the second cartridge. And again Moen sent another cartridge at no charge. This time I did the work following their explicit instructions. The faucet no longer leaks.
I am not going to tell anyone to not use this plumbing company, that would be your own choice. Simply I am describing factually some of my own experiences with them. I myself would neither use them again nor recommend them. It’s just that simple.
