Don and his crew built a Family Room and deck on our home in 2016. From the flooring to the tray ceiling, to my must have large windows, and my wife's sliding glass door, the quality and craftsmanship is the best. Even two years later our Family Room is still our favorite room in our home. My wife calls this addition awesome!!! Thanks Don, tell you crew Thank You also.

Don Guldin, General Contractor, Retired Marine Officer and Ordained Minister, in my opinion, is a thief. He contracted to re-build a house for me on a cost plus 10% basis two years ago. During construction he refused to give me copies of any receipts of purchases, labor costs, etc. When I refused to pay him the final $25,000 he claimed I owed him, he took a lien against my property and filed against me in court. He selected a jury trial. The court ruled in my favor, that I did not have to pay him and the lien against my property was removed. Don Guldin was required to provide copies of receipts and those receipts showed that 40 times he requested "cash back" in the amount of $40 each time and he charged the cash he received to me as "materials." Additionally, while shopping for supplies he purchased for my job, he also shopped for tools for himself; i.e., skill and jig and circular saws, 24" and 48" I beam levels, Interior Design Book, Passlode cordless tools, flashlights, caulk gun, drill sets, grinder, trowel, nail gun kit, scrapers, 25' hose, step ladder, radial sander, Roto Zip with bits, first aid kit, ice chest, 2- 50' sets of string lights, screw gun and snacks to munch on.
He even made a little side trip to Simpson Brothers where he selected a nice pair of boots and a leather belt for himself to the tune of $149.87. And, yes, he charged all of these "gifts for himself" to me as "materials." As for the quality of work performed in the house, the "knock-down" on the walls was (and still is) pathetically unprofessional,
Paint on the ceilings shows where the roller stopped and there are areas where nails popped. He put clear plastic corners on outside corners from the kitchen down the hallway; they were nailed on and
hammered in crooked leaving sharp edges on the heads. He hired
Onslow Electric Service to do the rewiring of the house. He and they were aware that a kitchen wall receptacle has no electricity to it and that the ceiling fans/lights in the living room and kitchen are improperly wired and they have refused to correct the malfunctions saying they wired them the way the contractor told them to for use with remotes...so neither the switches nor remotes work. My house was to be a "Handicap Equipped" house but the low-quality shower he installed cannot be equipped with a single handrail and the shower head was installed so high I couldn't reach it to remove or hang up the hand-held shower wand. Enough said for now. If you plan to hire Don Guldin to do a job and would like to view the quality of work performed here, give me a call (910-554-6742) and I will be pleased to show you around. I'm not claiming the man has no skills...I'm sure he does. I think he is lacking in morals. Perhaps he took a look at me, at the time, a gray-haired 80-year old, whom he decided just might be an easy scam! I personally think Don Guldin should be stripped of his contractors license but the Licensing Board for General Contractors saw no cause for disciplinary action against him. I attempted also to file charges against Don Guldin through criminal court based on Grand Larceny but the District Attorney Lee refused to allow filing through criminal court. District Attorney Lee advised that he, the Assistant District Attorney Neal and Detective Karratti of the Jacksonville Police Department concur that this is a civil, rather than a criminal, case; and that by law, the District Attorney's Office is limited to the prosecution of criminal cases. Makes me question, Just what does a General Contractor have to do to be charged in criminal court? How would I rate Don Guldin? As a "1"; only because there is no "0" rating.
