Thomas J. Donahue
Owner
I recently hired Donahue Mechanical to fix my hot water tank, which was emitting dangerous carbon monoxide levels above 30+ PPM. As someone on short-term disability, money is tight, but this was an emergency. I found Donahue Mechanical through social media, where Thomas Donahue boasts about his great work and installations. With so many glowing recommendations, I decided to trust him. Now, I understand why it's so difficult to trust contractors these days.
I contacted Thomas Donahue directly, explaining my financial situation and the urgency due to the high carbon monoxide levels in my basement. He assured me that his team could handle the situation. A few days later, he sent his son to perform the repair. Initially, the work seemed acceptable, but I soon realized the issue wasn't resolved. Carbon monoxide levels remained dangerously high, and upon closer inspection, I found that the hot water tank vent cap was tilted 45 degrees to one side, which is not up to code. Further inspection revealed several large holes and rust in the vent pipe, indicating it needed replacement—something never suggested by Donahue Mechanical. It was obvious this "repair" was insufficient and would not solve the problem.
I contacted Thomas Donahue again, and he promised to come by at the end of the day to address the issue. However, he never showed up and didn't respond to my follow-up messages. In frustration, I hired another HVAC technician who properly rerouted and replaced the entire hot water tank vent. Thanks to their efforts, the carbon monoxide levels are now at a safe 0 PPM.
I managed to get in touch with Thomas Donahue the next day, and he offered a refund. Despite his promise, I received neither a call nor a credit to my account. After a week, I reached out again, and he assured me he would send the refund when he returned to the office. Another week passed with no refund. When I contacted him a third time, he claimed that refunds are issued within 30 days. Now, more than 30 days later, I still have not received a refund.
This situation was not only dangerous but also handled with poor workmanship and a blatant disregard for safety codes. Thomas Donahue failed to take responsibility, did not make any meaningful effort to correct the problem, and has not honored his promise of a refund.
Do not trust Donahue Mechanical. If you choose to hire this company, make sure to double-check all work before they leave and before making any payment. This is a warning to anyone considering Donahue Mechanical for HVAC installation, replacement, or repair services. Your safety and peace of mind are worth finding a reliable and competent professional.
