Trustworthy and communicative, Chris is excellent. I’ve hired him to do many jobs (big and small) over the years and will continue to do so. One of the biggest was putting in a new front porch/decking and a bathroom renovation. Both projects are stunning.

Using Down to Earth as a consultant during my high end build was a very good idea. I was not able to be present at the job at all times and was not in the area so i relied on Chris and his staff to ensure everything went ok and smooth. Very nice to be able to rely on him to ease my worried.

Chris is the best! While mowing the lawn he decided to bring up my garbage cans from by the street and put next to the garage. Even though it is such a small thing, this truly made my day!

Incredibly skilled, compassionate, honest, friendly. actually CARED for my needs and took the time to make a plan of action according to my needs and priorities. Chris actually took the time to explain to me what needed to be done, and why it needed to be done. Not at all condescending, not at all selfishly out to make a hard sale or take advantage. He was willing to show me how I can work on things in the future. It's hard to believe that people like this still exist in the world: caring, compassionate, hard working. I would recommend this company to ANYONE!

On time, dedicated, loyal, friendly, helpful. Simply the best. Chris is very patient and willing to explain procedures in detail in order for us to feel safe in moving ahead with the project. Thanks again!

Bathroom remodel. First review written before some "little details" had been tended to, which have still not been tended to. The majority of the work was very well-done, and done quickly. Chris and Kaih replaced all the fixtures and tiled/painted the floor and walls.
The problems that remain represent a small part of the overall project, but it has been impossible to get Chris to come out to tend to them, almost a year later. Here's what we STILL need done:
1. Toilet paper holder was installed improperly (Chris' words were "it wasn't done right"), and wiggles constantly, hangs tilted, and the TP roll falls off.
2. "Invisible" (bracketless) shelves that we had purchased were installed improperly, with no fasteners into studs. Both are falling off the wall.
I have sent many emails to Chris about this, and when I get a response (which seems to be about half the time), he just writes that he'll "try to get out there to look at it." He has, thus far, not done so. He has not responded to my most recent email to him about these issues, which I sent two weeks ago.
Some folks would say that I should just tend to these issues myself, and that I shouldn't be asking Chris to come out and make them right. But there are several reasons why I have been doing so:
1. I am not skilled in these areas. The TP holder was installed on a tiled wall, and having never worked with tile myself, I am leery of screwing it up. The shelves were installed before the paint had completely cured, and there seems to be some sheet rock damage. I am hopeless with sheet rock.
2. We paid them about $8k for the job. I shouldn't have to then fix what they did wrong, or even worse, pay someone else to fix it.
I want to stress that in general we were very happy with the work. But the little details are important, too, especially when you're spending that much money. Chris was very responsive to questions or concerns before we paid them, but afterwards, not so much. Perhaps that was naivete on our part, or simply too much trust. Since last June, when these issues began to become apparent, it's been impossible to get him to deal with them. After this much time, I'm just washing my hands and have decided to bite the bullet and hire another local handyman to come here and take care of these things. Chris is a very nice guy, and we like him and the guys that work for him. This is nothing personal, and again, the great majority of the work was very well-done. I am not amending this review out of malice, but so that the review more accurately reflects our experience. I feel like I've waited long enough and allowed enough time and opportunity for this situation to be resolved.
I'd suggest that anyone hiring Down To Earth for remodeling work make sure that ALL the little details have been dealt with BEFORE you pay the balance of the bill. Afterwards, you might have a hard time getting them dealt with.
