  Steve from D&S Roofing & Sheet Metal Fabrications of 39 Magnolia Drive, Phenix City, AL 36869. (706) 527-0713 came out to the house and installed five solar tubes and two solar attic fans. He did okay on the fans, but the solar tubes are in question. He bragged that he was the first to install them in the area; my home must have been the first time because he started late and worked into the night. He never returned calls unless he was on his way to the job site. Used duct tape to hide his mistakes and then covered the duct tape with aluminum foil tape to hide the duct tape. On three of the solar tubes, the light does not bring the outside light into brightening the room, but instead it looks like it’s always getting dark outside; that is the extent of the light coming through. The next day after work, I went up on the roof to investigate why there was a lack of light coming into the home and I found that the solar tubes screws were missing. Then I peered into the solar tubes from the roof and saw that the tubes were dented and the seams did not line up; thus the duct tape was blocking the natural light. HE LIED TO ME when he was CONSTANTLY bragging that HE STANDS BEHIND HIS WORK because its a family business AND SHOULD I FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH HIS CRAFTMENSHIP, HE WOULD COME OUT AND FIX IT IMMEDIATELYBECAUSE THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP A BUSINESS AFLOAT THESE DAYS IS TO TAKE CARE OF THE CUSTOMER.
  When I called and asked him to come out and make some repairs and I would help him, I even said that I would purchase additional cylinders and tape; he said that he had to check if my payment was deposited and speak to the wife. Then he said he would call me back in two hours. HE NEVER CALLED BACK. So, I checked with the bank to see if the payment cleared and it had. Still believing he would honor his word, I CALLED EVERY DAY AND LEFT MESSAGES EXPLAINING HOW I WOULD TAKE TIME OFF WORK TO ACCOMMIDATE HIM, I would gladly purchase more cylinders, tape, and provide him with cold ice tea. Then a week later, he called and left me a message to call him at a different number. THE NUMBER belonged to ANOTHER COLUMBUS, GA RESIDENT WHO WAS WONDERING WHY I WAS CALLING HIM, ASKING FOR STEVE; he did not know a Steve. Then it hit me. He gave me a bogus number to get me to stop calling, and then I fully i=understood what he had done to my family and myself. He came in like a whirl wind bragging that he was the best roofer and solar tube installer in Georgia, and kept talking to me to keep me distracted the whole time he was installing the solar tubes; doing it at night so that I could not see his mistakes and then once the check cleared the bank, he was gone. He has never returned my calls. Never pulled a permit and there was nothing about taxes.
