By Mark D.December 15, 2020Build a fence closer to some retaining walls$15,000
Ron didn't install the fence as we discussed. We wanted the fence moved closer to the retaining walls. We told Ron that if he couldn't do it, we were not interested in replacing the fence since it was only 5 years old. He said that he couldn't put it in the wall but it wouldn't be an issue putting it up next to it. The fence was removed and the new holes were being dug. We mentioned to the guys digging that the holes were not where Ron and I discussed. We told them twice and Ron the third time. Ron told me not to worry. Well the fence was installed even further inward of our lot than before and we were told that was the only way?? I repeatedly asked Ron to move the fence and he wouldn't. After they left, we had a yard full of cigarette butts, bent metal, stained driveway and trash. Ron went "Ghost" except to send us a an invoice and call to be sure we received the invoice. HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!

Worst customer service. Called to have an appointment to get an estimate. Never showed up; I sent a message after appointment time and all I received back was "running late need to push you to 7 pm or reschedule". No apology. We are working parents of two toddlers and I had told him we couldn't do evening, and left a meeting early to meet him at 4:30. I could not dream of treating a potential customer this way. Still haven't heard back, not that I would use them anyway. Find another fence company as this is a sure sign of how it would be to actually work with them.

Duck Fence seems to be a good product, but don't have any problems. I had a couple issues that needed to be fixed, he promised to fix them, but promise after promise has still got my issues unresolved. He has denied that he never promised anything.
Avoid Duck Fence and go with another builder.

We had a 194’ western cedar board on board fence installed by Duck Fence & Deck LLC. The fence itself is beautiful. I do have a couple issues with the installation though. First, I paid $644 extra for the kickboard. I was told the kickboard would be recessed just below ground level to finish off the bottom of the fence to ground clearance and make a smooth surface for edging the grass. The kickboard did not even touch the ground on over 3/4 of the fence. The workers kicked dirt up on the kickboard to cover most of the crack.
Second, each board had a little tag on the end that wasn’t removed and was readily visible on the top of the fence. The workers removed most of the tags but only after I spoke to them. When I told Ron, the Duck Fence Co. owner, he dismissed it and said they were biodegradable and would disappear in a short time. I found a tag that had been discarded on the ground by a worker and showed the PLASTIC tag to him. Then more excuses. I’ll be dead long before those tags will degrade My wife picked up numerous tags that were left on the ground and there are still some tags as well as the plastic strips from the screw gun used to install the boards, screws, bolts and cigarette butts.
Ron was not on site anytime during the installation. I figured he would be by in the next day or two to inspect the installation and pick up the check for the balance due him. Two days later I receive an email invoice which said I should mail payment on receipt. I replied that I would pay him when he came by to perform the inspection as mentioned on his website “Furthermore, Ron personally plans each project and inspects each completed project.” Ron showed up two days later to inspect the job. I told him we loved the fence but had a couple concerns as spelled out above with the kickboard issue being the prime concern. Ron first said that they strung a line so the fence was straight across the top. I told him that looked good but my problem was that the kickboard was not placed on the ground or slightly recessed. Ron said he could raise/lower the fence to follow the contour of the ground. I didn’t understand the reasoning because the ground is pretty level. After a bit of discussion I realized it was going nowhere as both of us were raising our voices and accomplishing nothing. It didn’t take long for me to realize the old “the customer is always right” time is over and the “you take what you get” is the norm now. I told Ron that I would have to mention the issues that weren’t resolved in my review. I gave Ron a check for the balance due and he left shouting “go write your review while you are still mad” as he was backing out of my driveway. I guess my little $7,521.00 job doesn’t count for much.
It took a 77 year old man 7-8 hours of squeezing between my wooden fence and the neighbor’s chain link fence to lower the kickboard to the ground vs 30 minutes or less for the installers to clear the area so the kickboard could be installed properly to begin with BEFORE the wood slats were installed. After finishing off the kickboard, I now have a beautiful fence that is now properly installed.
