We have lived in our home built by Hayne Dukes of Dukes Homes for a little over three years. It is still as strong and sound as the day it was built and Hayne Dukes is still a good friend.
We purchased our lot in Delta Woods on April 11, 2014 and signed our contract for construction on July 18, 2014. We spent several months revising the plans and changing the specifications and were ready to start construction on September 5, 2014. We moved into our new home on May 1. 2015. Eight months from start to finish.
Dukes did not have an easy time of it during construction, especially in the spring, because of torrential rains and tardy subcontractors, but they soldiered on to keep things on schedule. We visited our home site every Sunday during construction to keep things neat and to make Dukes aware of questions and our thoughts on progress. Dukes also allowed us to communicate directly with subs when we had specific instructions to relay.
I have read comments by others who don't cite specific examples of their complaints or the circumstances surrounding them and can only conclude that they have never had a house built and/or do not know what changing things during construction can mean in terms of delays and additional cost.
We went from a larger home in Florida to a smaller home here in Alabama and for us it was a perfect transition—cozy, well executed and handsome—a little jewel box.

This is the worst builder ever, if you sign a contract with him you will be sorry. I signed my contract in 12/2016 and he still has not finished my house. I'm still about a month away with any other builder, but it probably will be 3 or 4 months with him. He does work one week a month and that's it. The plumber he uses, Jubilee Plumbing does not know what they are doing. I had to have half my slab jack hammered up because of their mistakes and to this day that has not been fixed. As the other review stated look somewhere else for a new home.

Permits
- Building permit records show that Dukes Homes, Inc. has worked on 197 permitted projects.
Signed our contract March 2018. July 2018, ready for construction. Were told it takes 6 to 10 months to build - 14 months later we moved furniture in September 1, 2019 (the house still unfinished). Due to Duke Homes' tardiness we were forced to overpay storage fees.
Biggest problems were
1) the lack of communication from the owner Hayne. John from office complicit in ignoring our calls.
2) Duke expected us to contact his subs when problems arose.
Red mud stains on exterior light beige brick. Painter left careless permanent stains all over tile floors. At a tiny scratch, paint peeled leaving white on walls. Richard (Granite guy) left granite uncaulked. His countertop has oddly different lengths on either side of our stove.
As to concrete job - severe cracks on garage floor appeared before we even moved in. Brad the trimmer quit without notice. We had to deal with multiple different lousy paint crews for paint - 5 months of no progress in between. WATCH OUT for Brian the cabinetmaker: very sloppy, didn't finish the job, totally denied our requests.
Only framers and bricklayers were decent.
This 14 months has been a nightmare. Do not pay the final draw while the house is incomplete! Run far far away from Duke Homes!
