On Oct 13, 2020, I signed a contract to hire Duration Painting Co to paint the interior of my rental house on Palms Blvd., Venice, CA. They started the job Nov 30, 2020 and finished about a week later. Within 4 months, (un-occupied) the paint started to peel off in large batches, on the closet doors x 8 doors and linen cabinet doors x 8 doors; and lat3er on my kitchen cabinet doors. I had Owner Scott Andrew Snell come back to look at the job, (after I waited awhile for him to finally make it back to my house) and he tried to blame it on the new tenant that had literally just moved in. The real reason for the peeling is extremely clear. (and I also got 5 other painter opinions recently) These cabinet doors were initially finished in oil-base marine varnish and Scott did not use a mechanical sander to pre-sand and prep the doors properly to receive primer and water base paint. A person can see that there is only one coat of paint (no primer) because under this peeled pant the door is still shiny, with high gloss shine; just as though it had never been painted. Scott used one coat water base paint over oil base varnish without properly prepping it. Scott said he would stand behind his work but HE wanted to wait until the Tenant moved out.( the tenant was my daughter, so it was to be a short stay; but then COVID hit) . Well she moved out, and now Scott is refusing to come back and fix the job properly. I did have a Rep from Dunn Edwards out and it is not due to Product Failure, it is due to a poor prep. I paid about $3000.00 more than the initial bid to this painter. I have made a complaint to Contractors Licensing Board. I am very upset and have given him opportunity after opportunity to come back and fix his mess; and in the mean-time I am missing out on Rental Income, as I cannot rent it out in this condition. So I am really getting screwed over (financially) by Scott Snell. I cannot recommend this Company. I will change my review if he comes back to fix the job. Thank you, LaVonne Collette 7/29/2022
