23 Junipers in 15 gallon pots were planted to replace ones damaged when a car crashed into the existing ones. Dusty's bid included hauling away the damaged plants, putting ample fertilizer and top soil so the junipers could get off to a healthy start. Dusty's crew put in one shovel worth of soil in each hole of each plant without spreading it around. For the size of the plants, much more top soil should have been put in the bottom of the hole to give these large plants a fair start. I asked his men why they put in so little soil and they said that's what Dusty ordered. Come spring we installed a "dyke" system in an attempt to keep the plants hydrated to no avail. There just wasn't enough lose soil left between the root ball and the soil around it for water to soak through. When spring came we began to notice that the plants had begun to deteriorate and upon closer inspection we noticed the root balls had been planted well above the soil line which told us the holes they dug were much too shallow and the plants did not fit into hole like they should.. There was also damage from installation as some branches had been trampled. A drip line was installed by us but it couldn't penetrate the rock hard boot ball so we installed a "dyke" system to hold in as much water as possible since the plants were on a slope. Fearful that the plants were dying we called Dusty beginning in June and spoke to him about the problem asking him to come out to the site. Between June 2015 and August 2015 we must have called him close to 10 times and each time he promised he'd come out but he never showed nor did he have the common decency to even call to say he couldn't make it. He did call back once to cancel an appointment because he was going on vacation to Lake Powel. Our water bill has tripled in an attempt to save these plants. He does guarantee his plants for one year but buyer be ware because after he collects his fee at least in our case, he vanishes.
