I had East & West Contractor & Painting come out to fix earthquake cracks, replace a bathroom ceiling that had a hole due to water damage, paint the walls and ceilings, and sand and re-stain my skylight that had sun damage. They did a nice job of painting the ceilings and walls. However, I am still finding drops of paint on my floor. They did not paint the ceiling in the bathroom where he had replaced the sheetrock as stated in the estimate. He also asked me to finish the job on two of the cracks that still needed to be sanded. I am not a contractor therefore I do not know what kind of sandpaper or how much to sand.
The estimate also stated that they would sand and stain my bathroom skylight. It had damage from the sun so there were places that definitely needed to be sanded in order to make the stain stick to the wood. It is apparent that they did not sand, but rather painted over the dry wood. I had another contractor come out and look at it because I was certain that it had not been sanded prior to staining. The contractor reinforced my opinion that it had NOT been sanded and that East & West just painted over the old wood. Mr. Choi, the owner, stated that he did not put that he would sand in the quote he gave me. When I told him that he had written to sand it, he then changed and blamed me for letting the wood go without staining past two years. He refused to come out and try to make it better. When I tested my fence with about the same amount of sun damage, I had no problem, after sanding and staining, to get the wood to pick up the stain. It wasn’t perfect, but it definitely picked up the stain. After I asked multiple times if he was going to come out and fix it, he abruptly said goodbye and hung up.
I Also had them paint the bathroom walls. Instead of peeling off the strip of wallpaper at the top of the wall, they painted over it. When I asked him to come fix it he said, that’s “too much work” and that he’d give me my money back for the paint job in the bathroom.
I do not recommend, and will never use this company to do any painting or contract work again.
