I would like to tell you what I thought about ECO Builders and Remodeling. We interviewed about 4 different companies and went with ECO. We felt good about our choice and they were the cheapest. Boy did we make the wrong choice.
We would not do business with the General Contractor again. I am not sure if this is company wide, or just the person we had working on our house. Our Foreman was only allowed to do a small portion of the job. My gut feel is that the General Contractor cut corners by subcontracting out to whoever they could get to show up.
To be fail, I'll just list facts below. I will only hit the highlights. I will leave out the little stuff! We will not to do business with the company ever ever ever (your get the point) again. We would like to warn people not to do work with them.
Here are the details about our kitchen remodel that ECO did...
New Kitchen lights (we replaced old florescent lighting with recessed lights) - The lights work fine. They don't seem to be aligned correctly, but do function. One of the workers said that they were not correct. (It seemed like in fighting within their company.)
New Kitchen paint - The paint looks good. However, when my wife got home, she said it was the wrong color. We told them it needed to match the adjoining family room's color. The General Contractor wrote down the wrong color. We are living with the current color.
Rewiring lights (a new light went over the sink, so a switch needed to be changed to include this new light) - Wow, how can you mess up this one. Changing a light switch from two switches to three, so the new light over the sink would work.) - This is hysterical. This shows what type of people were hired by ECO. This seemed as simple as you can get. After their first attempt, only two of the three switches worked. We called them back in to fix it. As they were leaving the second time, my wife stopped them to test it and found out they had two switches both control the same two lights and nothing controlling the third. The contractor said, "It is good that you caught me in time." He had no clue that the three switches needed to control three different things (garbage disposal, inside light, and outside back light).
New appliances - We were led to believe that the appliances would be installed by the crew. Well, they were, but it is obvious the crew were not told they were suppose to do it. We had to tell them we needed them moved inside and installed. Basically, the appliances were plugged in. We had to have the service people from the appliance company come over and fix the installation.
New cherry cabinets - It is clear now that the cheapest cabinets were used. We didn't know up front that there were different quality of cabinets. (Now it is obvious to us.) Drawers next to us don't open at the same time without hitting each other. Just cheap quality.
New sink - We had a reverse osmosis filtration system under the sink. The plumbers had no clue how to put it back together. They saying it was put together, however, it was just placed under the sink with nothing connected. REALLY!
New granite counter - Overall, the granite counter looks good.
Back splash - The tile we picked looks nice and was installed nicely.
Hardwood floor stripped and re varnished - After having them try 4 times to get it right. Our floor has gashes and isn't correct and we lost about 10 years of life on it. We have one more shot at re varnishing it before we have to replace it completely. We will not give ECO this shot! To show you how bad is was, ECO refund the floor part of the money we payed.
Baseboard replaced - They replaced the baseboards around the hardwood floor. EVERY baseboard was cracked where they used a nail gun. Literally every baseboard! We had them come out to replace them, but they only "puttied" them. Eventually they had a different crew replace every baseboard. They look good now.
Again, here were the highlights. I left out the little stuff.
