Ed O Farrell

Ed O' Farrell completely renovated our home in West Caldwell, NJ in March 2015 and it took him only 13 weeks to do it. When he first told us the timeline, we are a little apprehensive in hiring him, but after speaking to some of his former customers they re-assured us that his team worked quickly, efficiently and were concious about their budget. We got glowing recommendations from several folks, so we decided to use him and what a great decision we made. He kept true to his word and finished our house on time and within budget. Eddie was onsite daily to answer any questions we had and enusre that construction was running smoothly. We were very happy with the final product - love our new home and we recommended him to 5 neighbors in the area who used him and were delighted.

Ed did my kitchen renovation in Glen Ridge several years ago. His charm ended with his Irish accent. He went way beyond the time quoted o finish, went over budget and quit showing up for days on end. His worker told me he golfed most days. I was pregnant and had 2 young children but he didn't care that we were without a kitchen for more than six months. He was short-tempered and sarcastic. Even though years have passed and we have since moved, we sometimes quote a really rude comment he made to me when I told him he cut the wire that ran my outdoor lighting, "Not my problem." What an asshat he was.

Do not hire Ed O’Farrell as a builder for your home.

Following a few stale references, in late October we began renovating our single-family residence with Ed. Now here in December, we highly regret involving Mr. O’Farrell in this project – terrible decision. His work ethic, quality, and aptitude on our simple project are far from acceptable and have left us living in deplorable conditions.

During the past two months Ed has:
 Not shown up to work on our project for over a month - we were absolutely up-to-date on payments etc.
 Repeatedly failed to file paperwork and allegedly misled public inspection officials about his status as our contractor
 Started unauthorized work and retroactively billed for change orders not submitted
 Left our backyard in shambles and filled with construction waste
 Nearly voided our new construction window warranty with poor-quality installation that he actively declined to alleviate - we hired our own installer

It has been an absolutely painful process working with him. The positive references he provided were dated (some 10+ years ago) and for projects of different scope to ours. There is not much good to say about this experience. Do not hire!
