By Margaret O.March 24, 2024Replace pilings (foundation) and a deck$42,000
Hired this company to replace all foundation pilings and deck of a vacation rental home. They tore off the door to our utility room and left it laying in the driveway, they did not reconnect the electricity so no heat in the home, causing pips to freeze and burst adding additional expense to repair. They left the yard full of nails and contractor sand all over the driveway, One of the hand rail boards had to be replaced not all of the pickets on the deck were attached. We had the work inspected by another contractor and spent an additional $5K to repair the issues with the new deck, not all beams were attached, the joist's were placed end to end with no overlap to reinforce, the stairs were 2" unlevel, band board was not replaced as per contract, not all deck pilings were placed 8' into the ground as per contract. It was apparent the work was completed by sub contractors likely with little experience and poor oversite of their work

This company installed a boat lift for me, and I would not recommend using their services. They were contracted to fully install the pilings and boat lift, and run electrical from the house and wire the lift. I chose this company over a slightly lower priced contractor because I liked the owner and his experience.
All started well, they worked with me on scheduling and about 3 months after signing the contract the work started. The piling and lift install took 2 days. On the second day, I called Eli, the owner, to ask if the electrician was coming that day to run the electric and wire the lift. It was only at that point that he told me that he subs out the electrical work, and it would be weeks or even months until he could get an electrician there. I had been clear with him from the beginning that the work had to be done in the 2-week window when I was at the house. The contractor said he would do it whenever he wanted, whenever he could get to it, and that he didn't care about my home or my schedule. Furthermore, when I went through the process to raise the lift using extension cords for temporary power, it was clear the lift was completely out of balance...one bunk lifted much faster on the stern end than the bow. When I raised this issue with the contractor, he said he knew his team did it correctly, and I must have done something to unbalance it. Eli, the project lead and company owner, never even saw the lift after his team finished the work. Furthermore, not one of them ever tried to operate the lift....raise or lower it. I explained all I did was raise it, as it's intended, but he insisted that it must be my fault. Again...neither he nor one person on his team ever tested the lift operation.
Because I don't live at the property, and because Eli told me he would show up there whenever he wanted, I first contact local authorities and my neighbors to watch for him and inform me if he showed up. I also then paid the contract amount to keep him away. Now I'm bringing in my own electrician, and a different local marine contractor to help me complete the project.
If you hire this company, expect someone who will demand payment for a job that is incomplete per your contract, and not in correct working order. Also expect them to be very rude in the process.

WARNING! WORK DONE NOT TO CODE AND BUSINESS OWNER YELLS AT CLIENT WHEN CALLED OUT ON WORKMANSHIP.
This company had a great reputation, but I understand Eli is the new owner and that reputation is quickly fading. I used them for piling replacement. Pilings were improperly installed or backfilled the first time which resulted in uneven settling of pilings causing a deck to be out of level 3-6". The second time they came back to re-level. The third time, they dug up a 6x6 piling they placed to replace with an 8x8 piling. On removal it was revealed that the first piling they placed was severely under code with 5' in the ground when code is 8'. I had them come back a 4th time to expose other pilings they had placed to verify their workmanship and was berated and yelled at by the owner.
